Concerned about politicizing her favorite charity, singer-actress Jessica Simpson on Wednesday turned down an invitation to meet with President Bush, a snub that left Republicans dismayed. Jessica Simpson still plans to visit Washington on Thursday to lobby members of Congress on behalf of Operation Smile, a non-profit venture offering free plastic surgery for disadvantaged children with facial deformities overseas.
Look Both Ways Before Sending a Text
The reigning Miss Deaf Texas died Monday afternoon after being struck by a train, officials said. Tara McAvoy, 18, was walking about a foot away from Union Pacific railroad tracks. She had typed a message to her parents, both of whom are hearing-impaired, letting them know she was walking along the tracks from home to her mother’s workplace on Monday.
