Protest the War in Iraq Today

March 20, 2007     Posted in Reality

walk-out1.jpgSo this is news to me, but today is National Student Day of Action Against War. Obviously my school never game me the memo, however 78 other universities and colleges across the nation have signed on to protest the war in Iraq. They’ll be having walk-outs and rallies; teach-ins and speak-outs; wearing armbands and raising flags. It all sounds  so “let’s grow our hair really long and wear peace signs” and I like it.

I have to say that our generation hasn’t been very active in the anti-war movement. What’s up with that? I think a lot of us may disagree with the decisions the presidential administration has made. So why not speak up? Get your voice heard today.

Read about all the details — which schools are involved, what they’ll be doing, how this all started, etc. — on this awesome blog.

Absolutely ridiculous! You should be supporting your country, not turning against it. If anything, support the troops who are fighting for YOUR right to say such awful things! Freedom isn't free people. You should actually try to find out true facts about the war, not just what you see on TV. I fear for the future of this country…

    You are right – freedom isn't free – it costs a buck-'o-five!

You people are ungrateful. You will protest the war but you also bring down the morale of our troops who voluntarily give their lives for their country. You do not know what sacrifice is until you have given up almost everything for people you don’t know. You should be standing behind our troops. And if you don’t like the decision politicians make, vote them out. You all complain about it, but don’t vote. You say the student population is not actively involved in anti-war protests, well the same goes with voting. That is how you will take care of things. Not walking out on classes or screaming in front of the White House.

Perhaps the reason that some colleges have chosen not to hold any sort of war protest is because those institutions might, in some way, have the good sense to realize it is not for any one institution of learning to have a political stand on the Nation's presence in Iraq. It is the purpose of a school to educate, to develop, and to empower its students to have the wisdom to make their own informed opinions. I, for one, am pleased that the value of education has not been sullied to a common fight in the political arena. I am no advocate for war; but I do support the men and women who have given their lives and their heart and soul in protecting not only the country that preserves the right for every member to come to those conclusions, but also the freedom to live how we chose. May God bless the men and women of the Armed Forces, and those who will bring them home.

hey maura, the institution wouldn't hold any war demonstration or protest, its the people who attend these institutions. your right that the institution should have no stand, but it's irrelevant, the nut of the problem is how come people, college students, haven't organized a significant amount "get-together's". its like the thought, or the motivation and energy isn't there in todays student, not like it was years back. thats the nut of the problem.

If your so against the war and what the president is doing, then obviously you are unpatriotic.. Patriotism and Liberty is what the founders of the U.S Constitution developed are country for. With that said, why don't you just go and live amongst the French where they are too afraid to fight or the neutral Canadians.. If you don't like the decisions that our President makes, get the hell out of the United States and stop bitching already!! Bet y'all won't do that will ya?

Tell us what you're thinking...
