Oh My God, I’m Graduating in Like a Month

senior-freak-out.jpgAs I was walking across campus today, iced coffee in hand, the sun was shining and the sky was bright blue. I suddenly went into classic senior freak-out mode, a.k.a. I had a really sad moment where I realized just how much I was going to miss this place.

There truly isn’t anything like college. I mean, what other time in your life will it be acceptable to find any excuse to make matching t-shirts and conduct your own barcrawl on a Wednesday? Or go on a semester long vacation abroad? Or do the walk of shame at 1pm instead of going to class?

So, I give to you a list of my advice for anyone in the beginning stages of this wonderful thing we call the undergraduate experience.

1.Act confident. Even if you’re scared shitless inside. The beginning of college is a big mess of awkwardness and introductions. If you’re the cool kid that has it together, others will be drawn to you.

2.Never burn bridges. As the years go on, you will see just how small of a world it really is and that people have a way of popping back up in your life.

3.Meet Everyone. Forming connections and networking is one of the most important skills you need to master, and college is the perfect time to gain an extensive rolodex. Always be open to new relationships that may walk into your life.

4.Travel. Whether it’s for a semester or just a trip over spring break, take this unique opportunity to become a world-traveler. Start thinking about this early and look into the hundreds of different options out there.

5.Go Out! I know it’s cliché, but its true, you have the whole rest of your life to work 9-5. So, have those random Monday nights out with your roommates where you learn something new about everyone during an intense drinking game.

6.Do it all. Join a sorority, play on an intramural sports team, write for a publication, get involved with a political activist group, or start your own club. Whatever it is, find your passion, and do it. College is about finding yourself and gaining all the experiences possible.

You may find some of them cheesy, but eventually you’ll be in my same position and want to pass on your findings. Possible updates to come as graduation creeps up and I get closer to an emotional breakdown. Until then, take my advice and use it to become a kick ass co-ed.
