How Much Are Your Eggs Worth?
So the other day i was watching The View. Now, I know what you are all saying, why is a college-age girl watching that show? Well, cut me a little slack here…With my abundance of free-time while in limbo between graduation and a real life, I have been able to embrace morning television. Don’t hate.
Anyways, the chatty ladies were discussing the topic of egg donation and how many college girls are taking part in this without knowing what it really entails. And they mentioned how much girls are being paid for primo eggs: anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000, or sometimes more, depending on how wealthy the couple is and what kind of traits the girl might have.
In short, the most attractive, smart, or athletic college girl with the least amount of disease in her genes will be paid the most for her eggs. Thousands of dollars is a TON of money for a broke college student facing impending financial responsibilities and debts.
Seems like a sweet deal right? Well, before you all go selling your eggs, you might want to pay attention to these facts about egg donation:
1. Unlike sperm donation for guys, it is NOT a fun process! You don’t get to go pleasure yourself for a half hour in a room with porno magazines and poof it is over. “Egg donation takes the donor some 56 hours and includes a battery of tests, ultrasound, self-administered injections, and retrieval.”
2. A needle is stuck in your vagina! Yes, it’s true, and if that’s not a big enough reason to forgo egg donation, then I don’t know what is. “Once the eggs are mature the donor receives an injection that triggers ovulation. Thirty-six hours later, the eggs are retrieved through the vagina with an ultrasound-guided needle.”
3. It may leave you infertile! There has been recent debate as to the long term effects on a college girl’s future fertility from egg donation. “The college girl who thinks that earning some quick cash selling her eggs may have to deal with an inconvenient truth when she finds herself prematurely infertile.”
Although the monetary benefits of egg donation might seem appealing at first, I would advise any college girl to think long and hard about what she is really getting herself into. After reading up on it, I’m not sure that any amount of money is worth the pain or potential risks. Not to mention the fact that a child with your DNA would be running around somewhere and you would technically be their biological mother. Creepy.

I used to work as a donor coordinator for an egg donation company. There seem to be a few inaccuradies in your article:
The needle does not go through the vagina, it’s inserted through your abdomen directly into the ovary.
This is the first time I’ve heard *anything* about the possibility of infertility. Not only that, but my boss (the owner of the company) has a son and has donated twice. But maybe she’s just fertile
You’ve got the smart, attractive, athletic part right. That was my aspect, screening the online applicants. Simply put, couples are just not going to pay any cash for someone that was born with a giant nose (plastic surgery be damned), is a pathological liar, or has CF in her genes. If they’re going to pay up to $50k, they’re paying for a good looking, smart, healthy egg and then baby.
We had girls that would repeat donations (they’re generally anonymous) for different couples, one making $20k each time. She was a model, and brilliant.
It’s definitely worth looking into, but make sure you check your facts first, I guess like Lauren’s article says

I agree your article is wrong a couple of levels. I had to go through IVF to have my son and they only thing they do that may hurt, they put you asleep for, so no pain. Second, doing IVF doesn't lead to sterility anymore than having an abortion does( not comparing the two).
