A Little Life Lesson

Lindsay LohanHaving spent 4 out of 5 nights this week working late, my DVR has acquired quite a collection of shows I needed to watch. Namely, a whole lot of Oprah. So, like every other super-lame college grad, I have spent the majority of my holiday weekend catching up on my shows.

One Oprah ep I watched was the one with Sarah Jessica Parker and her new cheapo clothing line, Bitten. While I disagree with Mary and think the clothes are super adorable and versatile, I actually took something completely different away from the show.

SJP made a comment about the values of people in our country. She says our values are a little off; instead of focusing all of our energy on butting into the private lives of celebrities and picking apart every little thing they do we should pay more attention to real problems that need attention in the world. Problems like disease, poverty and hunger.

Whatever, Sarah Jessica. While I do enjoy a little US Weekly action now and then (read: all day every day), I don’t think that my love for all things celebrity takes away from my interest in things happening in the world. I still consider myself a pretty well-informed person. I read Yahoo.com, damnit! Is that nothing to you?!

Don’t believe me? Well, just watch how I do on this little self-proctored test.

Things I Know About Lindsay Lohan:

1. She loves Balenciaga bags

2. She always wears stretch pants

3. She got into a car accident this weekend and police found trace amounts of cocaine at the scene.

4. Her parents are divorced and no one has contact with Papa Lohan

5. She is from Long Island, New York

6. She is amazing/naughty/ferocious/loud in bed (says her most recent man)

7. She loves sex. A lot.

8. She has been in 11 movies, the best of her career being Mean Girls (though some might argue The Parent Trap was her #1)

9. She drives a Mercedes SL-65

What I Know About Alberto Gonzalez:

He likes to be called Al (Well, I can’t know that for sure, but I definitely would prefer it if my name was Albert)

Hm. So maybe Ms. Parker was right. Time to close People and spend a little more time with The Times.

I know this is supposed to be sarcastic, but this is the most depressing thing I’ve read all week.

Did you know that from 1990 to 1998 US televison networks more than doubled the time devoted to entertainment, diasters, accidents, and crime while decreasing time spent on policy and international affairs?

It makes me sick to know that during April of 1994, the height of the Rwanda genocide. OJ Simpson and Tanya Harding where getting most of the air time.

Actually, I don’t even find your sarcasm particularly amusing. I think I’m going to go pray that Americans stop obsessing over fake news and actually start caring about something other than Lindsey Lohan. Darfur anyone?
