When it comes to being single, there are two ways of looking at it:
1) YES! I’m free! I do what I want! I’m independent and sexy! I’m SINGLE! Woooohoooo!
2) Ugh. I’m pathetic. Nobody wants me. How does she have a boyfriend and I don’t? I’m single. Boo.
Let’s forget about the ladder. They’re just Debbie Downers who no one wants anyway. For the former opinion, there’s a new ring on the market that is sweeping the single
nation.
The Singelringen.
It promotes “Single Power – a Way of Living!” as if to say, screw you, you attached, engaged, married ring-wearers. Celebrities (albeit more B-List celebs) like A.C. Slater and Naomi Campbell have been spotted wearing the Singelringen, giving us normal folk the courage to leave our ring fingers untouched – as the Singelringen is worn on the left hand, on any finger we damn well please.
According to the website, those who wear the ring are officially part of the Global Singelringen Community, where everyone celebrates Single Power – kind of like a dating service/ring-bearing cult. Okay, now it’s getting a little far-fetched if you ask me.
The singles’ ring idea is….well, it’s nice in theory. As I get older, I must admit that people who are engaged or married seem to be part of a club that I just cannot get invited to. These rings are also a great way to weed people out – wearing one of these babies lets you know the guy or girl you’ve been scoping at the bar is ready to mingle.
At the same time….would you really want to date a guy who wears one of these things?
I’m on the fence on this one. The thought is nice for us single women (jewelry on single guys is always iffy). And to genuinely embrace singleness is a wonderful thing.
But in the end, rings on men are simply more attractive when then the men are actually taken.
