Beyonce: Irreplaceable, or Already Replaced?

beyonce.jpgAt first I was like, Alright, Beyonce! Love yourself! Sing about how you’re independent and don’t need a man and pay all your own bills. Work those gold sparkly outfits! Give those interviewers a piece of your mind! Be strong! Yeah!

But now, I’m not so sure.

Like this blog on EW.com, I’m strangely over Beyonce, and I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s because she seems to have everything, and it’s hard for me—a poor grad student with no boyfriend and no movie offers and definitely no gold sequined dresses—to completely connect with her.

So maybe it’s jealousy.

Or it could be the fact that her last hit “Irreplaceable” had such potential to be a strong woman song, but only succeeded in being an anthem for chicks who like to jump from one relationship to another: “You must not know about me / I could have another you in a minute / matter fact he’ll be here in a minute – baby”.

So maybe I’m just sick of the lyrics she sings (but doesn’t write).

It could also be that she’s rumored to be a diva who wears fur.

So maybe it’s about her attitude. An attitude I only know from magazines. Combined with the fact that I can’t stand it when humans wear fur. Maybe that’s why I’m over this Destiny’s Child?

Maybe, like Rufus, I’ve just had enough of her sound.

“I’m really sick of Beyoncé. All of her songs are formulaic and produced in a way that’s utterly mesmerizing in the basest way.” Mr. Wainwright recently told Spin magazine. “There’s no enlightenment. Like most mainstream pop these days, it’s more of a scientific experiment than an artistic experience”.

Do any of you feel the same? Are you done with Ms. B? Or am I simply not attuned to the amazingness that is Beyonce?

I always thought of "Irreplaceable" as a song sung by a woman pretending to be strong. She's talking tough as she chases off a horrible boyfriend, and say things like "I can get another you". If you look at it like that (ignoring the music video), then it's suddenly more interesting.

Yes you are right she has already been replaced by Lil Miss Rihanna who I know is just a shocking success to many in the music industry who said she won't get past 'Pon de Replay'. I used to be a HUGE Beyonce fan but I too find her music somewhat "monotonous". Rihanna is fresh, has a unique style and versatility. But Beyonce is still a really good performer,i.e. on stage ONLY , her acting is horrible. But no hating on Beyonce; I think she's very talented, BUT Rihanna is more interesting on the music scene right now.
