Getting hit on can be one of two things; slightly flattering and fun, or completely disgusting and oh-so incredibly lame. In my experience, being hit on by lesbians is an occurrence almost totally devoid of the latter.
I’m sure some of you have lesbian pick-up horror stories (or fantasies, whatever the case may be), but whenever I’ve been the attempted pick-up-ee by another woman, I have felt neither the grossed out shivers or the latent uncomfortableness that often accompanies the male pick-up.
For one thing, women always start a conversation first, asking a question, asking a name, instead of going right for the proverbial jugular of “you’re hot, can I buy you a drink?” Easing into things allows both parties to feel like they’re actually talking, rather than diving headfirst into a mating ritual. Why do people have sex? Seems about as obvious as Ms. Star Jones having weight loss surgery, but apparently it is not.
In a recent study published in Archives of Sexual Behavior (I don’t read it; I swear. I actually saw this study on the Today Show), 2,000 people were asked why they had sex.
The answer? Well, surprisingly, there were more than one. 237 reasons, to be exact.
The top three most popular responses for both men and women seemed the most obvious:
1. They were attracted to the person
2. They wanted to experience physical pleasure
3. “It feels good”
The other 234 reasons were random, interesting and – sometimes – scary.
Some included: to burn calories, for revenge, to make babies, to get closer to the person, to get closer to God and to pass STDs onto someone else (yikes!). Read More »
Maybe I’m not the norm.
I like (okay, love) video games. I admit it! I think it goes back to childhood when I was forced into playing (but, mostly watching) them with my brothers. But let me tell you, after a good 15 years of playing everything from Super Mario to the underrated (and hilariously ridiculous) Burgertime, I know a thing or two about gaming.
And yes, while there are certainly hundreds of games that feed into the typical male shoot-‘em-up mentality, trust me, there are games for the girls that will blow your mind.
Like what, you ask?
Wii Fit! I know, we’ve mentioned it before, but it’s totally worth another discussion. It’s not scheduled to be released until 2008, but Steve and I got to play a demo of it yesterday and my inner-geek was overjoyed! Read More »
Oops, she did it again.
Honestly, I’m one of the few that think Britney’s crazy antics lately have been absolutely glorious. Obviously, she just got tired of all the paps and ruthless tabloids and decided to flip them the big fat bird. Good for you Brit, lose your mind all you want!
Personally, I always loved Spears the singer, always hated Brit the person. Especially in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 911 where she stated, “I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that.”
Intelligent, Brit.
Anyways, as if filling her kids’ baby bottles with soda and then trying to get a dentist to whiten their little teeth wasn’t enough, she has now reportedly threatened to kill a photographer. Wacky bald Brit? I approve.
Commando without a care Brit? Sure, why not.
Psycho killer Brit? (She’ll cut you.) Not so much.
The same pap, Andrew Deetz, that swiftly got his arse beat by her bodyguard last week in Vegas after trying to photograph Brit is now coming forward, claiming that Britney threatened to kill him.
Deetz is asking (begging?) for a restraining order against Spears, accusing that she witlessly claimed that she, or ‘someone she hired’, would kill him. No doubt she’s sure she’s ‘stroooonger than yeeesterday’! Read More »
Okay, I’m pretty sure that the last people to ever use “Sponges” as a contraceptive method were our moms…maybe our grandmas. Well, that might be a little overdramatic. I think Elaine on Seinfeld was the last person to discuss their death on that famous Sponge episode. And seriously, the thought of using a Sponge nowadays is as obsolete as the idea of boy bands making a comeback.
So, it came as a surprise to me when I saw an article in the New York Times reporting that “The Sponge is Back, With a More Modern Approach.”
Apparently, the pharmaceutical company has updated the packaging for the Today Sponge from conservative and feminine looking to pictures of “hip-looking women, playful typography, and colors that officials call ‘fuchsia and wine.’”
Interesting marketing ploy, but I have a hard time believing that young women will start using the Sponge again, mainly for the statistics of inefficacy.
“16 percent of American women who had never given birth and may have used the sponge incorrectly or inconsistently became pregnant within a year, while 32 percent of women who had given birth and used the sponge this way became pregnant. The pregnancy rate for women who relied on condoms for birth control and may have used them incorrectly or inconsistently was 15 percent, while the rate for women using birth control pills in this way was 8 percent.” Read More »
As your favorite stores begin to fill their racks with sweaters and heavy denim, you may find yourself clinging to your favorite sundress for dear life.
Maybe it’s those killer new sandals you picked up last week or that adorable cropped jacket you haven’t yet had the opportunity to flaunt. Don’t despair! Stylebakery.com has compiled a list of ways to recycle your summer style into the fall months.
My favorite suggestions were the first three on the list.
1. Floral Dress- The fall is a colorful season. Why ditch your floral dress when the leaves turn from green to red? Stylebakery provides a number of options to keep this piece active. The main theme seems to be layer a cardigan on top of your dress and adding on some tights (or leggings!). A few accessories will add even more flare to your ensemble.
2. Bermuda Shorts- Bermuda shorts are versatile, comfortable, and cute. You may want to extend their time of use as they look good with everything from T-shirts to high heels. Slip some tights or leggings under these babies to help them hang in just a bit longer. For an elegant look, you may want to add a patterned or lace tight under your Bermuda shorts. To stay casual stick to opaque tights or jersey leggings. Read More »
