…Just came back and I've gotta mention, Craig has a really good point; here's to dating people you'd see regularly anyway. It sounds like the smartest relationship concept i've heard in a long time, maybe someone should do a writeup on this one, too!

I went out with a girl a year ago, and the experience was very upsetting due to this stupid easy texting thing. Since it ended, its easier to see the signs that she wasn't that interested, and was just going along with things, and texting made this approach easier for her (and damn confusing for me).

I wish we could have spoken on the phone or even had a proper second date (instead of a post break up / argument meeting that was a total disaster)…then perhaps things may have been different.

I also think if she had been someone I was able to see day to day, like she worked in a shop I frequented etc or went to a bar I went to, then also it would have been able to develop or go nowhere more naturally.

Texting just kept something pointless gouing because its 'easy'.

This is a great article, and you make a point that, I think, really needs to be heard more widely in these times of instant communication. The more elements of human presence that we strip from our communication activities, the less natural and more confusing things get! Texting versus talking in person is the ultimate dumbing-down of "reaching out and touching someone". Where face-to-face communications are rich in information (signals are being sent on many levels), "txt msgs" are lacking in nearly any such cues unless they're very deliberately constructed to send a strong message (and even then, sometimes). My point? Well.. txtin sux 4 r-ships n dates.
