This week, TLC aired the season finale of L.A. Ink, Kat Von D’s spin-off of the wildly popular Miami Ink. Just like it had all season, it was full of tons of talent, a little bit of drama, and some really, really amazing tattoos.

Ever since she hit our screens in Miami Ink, Kat’s been wowing us with her portrait work, and now that she’s enlisted her incredibly gifted friends to help her in her own shop, we’ve been treated to some of the best ink there is to offer.

First, Kat reunites with her friend Pixie (love her!) and lets her in on her plans to open her own shop. Then she meets up with Corey Miller who is one of her inspirations:

Then, she tattooed actor Eric Balfour:

Something really endearing about L.A. Ink (and TLC in general) is it’s ability to show what seems like cheesy moments and morph them into something heart-wearming but not cringe-worthy. In this clip, a grandfather is memorialized and the family gets together to watch Corey play with his band!

It’s awesome to see in the world of body modification, woman tattoo artists are getting the proper platform it needs…if just to prove that the business doesn’t need to be dominated by the guys!

Do you have a tattoo? What is it? What’s the story behind it?

I have three tattoos and want more. They all have meanings, like the shark for my surfing craze, the love of the water is my dolphin and sunflower on my hip for "growth." Im thinking of doing some airbrush tattoos on friends to get the hang of doing my own real ones someday! I get a lot of my awesome products online here: http://www.tribalinkproducts.com

These shows are awesome! I have one tattoo of an anchor on the left side of my lower back. I got an anchor because it is the symbol of my sorority. I was told when I was getting it done that i'd get addicted and want another one, and that is so true! I'm trying to resist the temptation though!

I have been going through issues with pain and the different treatments that the "experts" say and I so terribly want to get some tats but am so very afraid. I do have a question, When a tat is being done is the needle on the gun ripping the skin?

I just wanted to say that I love your show and watch it all the time. I love seeing the outcome of peoples ideas, pics, and your touch of artistic talents to each tattoo that is entrusted to you. You all do a wonderful job and would love to have you do one on me.

I have a great one planned that has a lion fighting a Cobra and enscripted with pieces of 3 Bible verses from Rev: 20:2,3,14 This is the one I would love to have Kat do for me!!!

I have six tattoos and each are because I wanted them for one reason or more.

I have one on my left shoulder, my first which is a black cross outlined with Red shadow as a simble for christ bleeding for us.

One on my left wrist, KW, my first love.

On my left shoulder blade, a Mayan mask because I'm Mayan Indian.

A scroll on my Left side for my brother who was killed in a car accident.

A trible in the middle of my shoulder blades that has a Dragon in black (guardian) an owl (for wisdom) in yellow, and Gargoyles, (as watchmen)and a star (heaven) all blended in an abstract art form which is a wolf face, (tracker and leader of the pack) encompassing all the attributes. It has Yellow, Orange, Red, Green, Blue, and black.

Citius, Fortius, Altius, = Swifter, Stronger, Higher on my right shoulder encircling a branding of the sun and Chinese symbol for strength.

Since everyone is into tattoos here is a meaning for the word tattoo: Our word tattoo comes from the Tahitian word tatau. 18th century European sailors first noticed this tradition among the Tahitians and Marquesas and brought the idea to America and Europe. For the men of the Marquesas, tattoos were a sign of beauty and bravado because the process of receiving a tattoo was so painful. Many ‘victims” (as tattoo recipients were called) fainted from the pain and some did not survive the night. A man with many tattoos was known as having great courage and strength. Tattoos were also used throughout Polynesia as a form of “written” communication-important cultural and family information would be contained in them. Author: http://www.islandtribal.com
