Get a Tattoo, Be a Human Advertising Campaign

chanel.jpgTattoos are always an iffy subject.

They stay on you forever, something that seems awesome at 20 (skull and crossbones with flames! Sweet!) might not seem so cool at 40 (“mommy, why do you have a scary skull on your back?”), and getting them removed is a whole hell of a lot more painful than getting them done.

Plus, people tend to look at you differently if there’s permanent ink on your arm or back or stomach.

Tattoos will always be a heavily debated topic, but what if I told you the discussion was about to get a little more complicated?

Branding Tattoos, a new way for advertisers to get their product out there and for image conscious buyers to forever connect themselves with their favorite apparel or make-up line, are slowly becoming more popular in the states.

Consumers are turning away from hearts, flowers, and tribal armbands, and getting Nike and Dior etched into their skin forever.

As someone who shuns clothing that tries to use me as a human billboard, the idea of inking Chanel’s logo into my skin for all eternity makes absolutely no sense. It makes less than no sense. Why would a person do something like that? To show their devotion to overpriced clothes? To convince people they have a lot of money?

The only reason I can think of why anyone would tattoo a brand onto their skin was if they lost a bet. A giant, monumental bet.

What do you think? Is this idea redonkulous, or totally fashion forward?

It would be cool if you got a discount for the brand you tattoo on your skin. You know, as long as it is visible most of the time so you are advertising for them.

there was a rumor going around that any one who tattooed the chipotle burrito logo on them would get free burritos for life. if that rumor was true that might be motivation enough to get a brand.

    sadly, the rumor is false.

why do people get “Tribal” tattoos?

    are they in a tribe?

do they have any idea why they are getting it?

    doubt it

Dragons? Unicorns? Actors faces? Naked women? Nike Swoosh? Adidas logo?

    what’s really the difference?

    do what you want

it is still a somewhat free country

this is so idiotic… branding yourself is like mindlessly supporting every negative thing that corporations represent. you won’t be human, you’ll become a commodity.

There’s Chanel adverts all over the place with logo’d models. I thought they were cool…until I realised they were real. Some Ralph Lauren adverts show models with a bunch of painted-tats that looks friggin’ fine. And Fashion houses are always changing designers, it’s a given you’re unlikely to love them for ever.
