Are You Selling Me Sex? Then Put Some Clothes On
The AP has picked up a news story reporting that authorities seized two display photos from an Abercrombie & Fitch store in Virginia, citing the management on “misdemeanor obscenity” charges.
Looking at the photo on the link as a twentysomething chick, I don’t see much that’s obscene about it, but it does piss me off for other reasons.
Abercrombie & Fitch has been pulling the same shit for years; their entire retail strategy consists of selling clothes through barely-clad models. Excuse me, but if I’m buying a piece of clothing, I don’t want somebody to be taking it off in the ad unless it’s a Victoria’s Secret bra.
Abercrombie, are you selling me a naked man? No? Then change your freaking advertisements. New York & Company was able to run a highly successful ad campaign last year featuring Patrick Dempsey, a known hot man, but there was one key difference: he was actually wearing clothes.
Don’t get me wrong here. I like to see some skin from hot guys just as much as the next straight girl, but I like my ass with some class. A shirt with a few top buttons undone can be just as sexy as some dude who’s obviously stripping, and it’s a lot more elegant as well.
As long as I’m on a roll with slamming Abercrombie, I’d like to point out that a Google search for “Abercrombie & Fitch” turns up the retailer’s Web site as a first result, which pens itself as a clothing line “for aspirational men and women.”
Am I the only one with my eyes bugging out here? Aspirational? Are you trying to tell me, Abercrombie, that if I wear duds from H&M or Target that my aspirations are not as high as someone who shells out 75% of their daily income for a logo tee made in one of your overseas sweatshops?
Try again, Abercrombie & Fitch. I’m not going to drop a hundred bucks for a pair of jeans at your elite store for cheerleaders and preps just because you show me somebody taking them off.
Tell us what you're thinking...

totally agree with you..AND their clothes feel so cheap. I haven't shopped there in years so maybe it's gotten better..but their stuff would fall apart all the time..and just felt so chinsy..and when I'm paying 50 bucks for a tshirt..it better be made out of freaking gold

Well I worked for Hollister (owned by a&f) for 2 and a half years and I currently work for abercrombie (the kids store) The stuff is actually more well made then most other places you visit. I also work for Urban Outfitters and the stuff they sell is complete garbage! I fold entire stacks of their shirts and every single one has holes and rips and stains. Hollister and Abercrombie refuse to sell damaged merch. PLUS Urban's T's run about 28-40 bucks where Hollister and Abercrombie's are only 20. the jeans are pretty inexpensive too. At hollister they are only 40 for a regular (undestroyed) pair. and only 10 dollars more at abercrombie. Shopping anywhere but AE walmart and target a regualr pair of jeans is $80+ Also the adds are not THAT bad in the store. Abercrombie and Fitch is not the only company trying to use sex to sell clothing. They are SURF brands which means they're meant to be worn in beachy areas where not all clothes are required. The item that the stores try to sell the most are their jeans which is why when you walk in the stores you're greeted with tag lines such as, "Have you picked up a pair of our new low rise jeans", "Do you wear Hollister Jeans?", "Hollister jeans make everything look better!" etc. This is why you see so many adds with a model only wearing jeans it makes the focus the jeans. There is a method to their madness, and obviously it's working because they are one of the top clothing companies in the country (and people travel to this country JUST to buy their clothes) Their are also unregistered imitation stores in other countries from people coming in stealing merch. Shelving, adds, etc. because the company is so popular. The only sad thing is they have shitty customer service because they know no matter how bad they treat people their company is so prosperous people will keep coming back for more.

Abercrombie’s (tees) are only 20?
the 2 I bought (because they were too cute to pass up), though it's been a hile, were around 30
so were all the ones around the ones I bought.
They both haven't been worn enough to be as worn out as they are
one shrunk up waaaaay short! and the other's letters are wearing off
and "anywhere but AE walmart and target a regualr pair of jeans is $80+"
what??? Prices are high, but I disagree with that.
though,…
nowadays, I usually buy off of ebay, tjmaxx, or thrift stores.
My favorite pair of Gap jeans came from a thrift store brand new! I've also found vintage de la Renta, and several other great items.
So don't count out places like thrift stores for great finds people

Well I'm studying to be a speech pathologist, and when I saw "aspirational" it made me think of people who get choked on food/liquids and swallow them into their airways…so I saw a totally different kind of humor there…but still ridiculously funny no matter how you look at it!
