Belly Dancing…The Sexilicious Way To Work It

23504736.jpgI, like so many others, joined a gym last month. I swear, it had nothing to do with me wanting to hop on the New Years Resolution Band Wagon…it was more about the deals in January targeted toward those people more than anything else.

So now I go to the gym every day. And on Thursdays and Sundays, I belly dance. That’s right. I never saw my self as a belly dancer before, but when I saw these classes were being offered for free at the gym…uh…duh…I had to try it.

I saw a belly dancer once at a party and I thought, “Damn, that looks kinda easy. She shakes her ass and looks mysterious and has a cool outfit.”

I was gravely mistaken. Belly dancing is one of the hardest things I have ever done. Hands down. It’s harder than riding the train hung over, harder than breaking up face to face when you really just wanna send an email, and it’s definitely harder than just shaking your ass and looking mysterious. God, how I wish it were that easy.

The ass and hips, I am learning, have all sorts of muscles. But I’m pretty sure they’ve been set aside for those who belly dance ONLY because I certainly never felt them before. And now I feel them aching…every Friday and Monday.

But ladies, listen here. If you are at all interested in racking up some sexy points; then start belly dancing. Of course you don’t have to join a gym of pay for classes..that’s why we have YouTube. However, I will testify to the fact that watching all of the other babes in my class nail every step does make me work harder.

I can’t have them thinking they’re god’s gift to ass and belly shaking while I trip over my own feet, can I? But what I CAN do…and what YOU can do is get a ridiculously easy, yet intense, workout that could do you some serious good in the bedroom, too. I’d say “If you know what I mean” here, but I know you know what I mean.

I also started bellydancing recently. I've always wanted to learn bellydance so I was super excited when Fit Tv started the Shimmy series. Which is a great alternative if theres no bellydance classes offered in your area(or if your too broke.) Some lessons are a bit difficult for beginners and probably don't explain the movements as well as they would be if you took a class but considering you can tape episodes and practice in the comfort of your own home (I myself am shamefully uncoordinated so this part is awesome.)it's definitely worth checking out.

I am a professional belly dancer and instructor. I studied other forms of dance for many years — ballet, jazz, Salsa, and more — and have found that belly dance is the most complex and interesting form of dance. Even though I have studied and taught it for a long time, I will continue to study it for the rest of my life, because there is so much to learn, and it is constantly evolving. Try it!
