Protein Bars. Your Way
February 18, 2008 Posted in Cool Stuff

My mom invited me to join her for a few sessions with her private Pilates instructor. Might I add that my mother did not mention to me that I would have to pay for half of said lesson until after the fact, which was quite a surprise to me. But, the money was totally worth it…even if I can’t really afford to do it ever again.
Not only did this woman work my muscles until they shook, but she taught me exactly what I needed to eat afterwards to optimize our one-hour session: protein and fiber. And she was so right.
Ever since that fateful day, I have been following my workouts with a big dose of protein and fiber. Sometimes it’s eggs and toast. Other times a little peanut butter on some whole wheat crackers. Usually, though, I don’t have time to make a hearty snack or meal after my workout (since I am usually running 20 minutes late to work as it is), so I depend on a good old protein/nutrition bar of some sort.
Let me tell you; if I eat one more freaking Luna Bar I am going to go crazy.
Sure, Luna offers tons of flavors. And sure they are all really delicious. But I just need something new, you know? Something different.
Someone up above must have heard my cries (and felt my nausea at the first bite of my 1,000th Luna Bar) because yesterday I discovered YouBars.
This company is absolutely brilliant. You just sign onto their website and you can create your very own bars! They have so many options (organic, vegan, stuff for the regular Joe) to really tailor the bar to your needs and your tastebuds. You can even name it!
If you’re not quite as adventurous as me when it comes to mixing a bunch of crap together, YouBars also offers some popular pre-designed bars that take out the guess work and are sure to please.
The bars may cost a little more than the stuff you can pick up in the store, but they’re totally worth the money when you consider the fact that this is designer, baby.
I can’t wait for my Lauren’s Flat Ab bars to arrive; I know they will be a delightful change of protein pace, but I hope they can live up to their name.

I am completely addicted to Luna bars, but now I think I may have to give this Youbar thing a try. It sounds amazing!
