Take Those Rings Outta Your Boobs, Missy (Say TSA Agents)

little girl getting scannedA woman trying to catch her plane home from Los Angeles to Texas was recently forced to remove her nipple rings to board the plane.

There are so many things wrong with this.

First of all, why are nipple rings setting off the alarm? I understand that the TSA has to be thorough (and I’m glad they are, even if they always put my very semitic father in the terrorist box before boarding a plane…but that’s another issue), but my understanding of this is that they are sensitive to people having metal on or in their bodies than cannot be removed. Yes, a nipple ring is a superfluous example, but there are lots of people who had surgeries that caused their cyborgness. And they have to take planes too.

My next issue with this is that they actually made her remove it. In the airport. WITH PLIARS. So completely dangerous to this woman’s health. Removing piercings in an unsanitary place is just asking for trouble, and a nipple piercing where the skin might have grown around the piercing? It makes me squeamish just thinking about it.

And the humilation! Oh my God. Why did they need her to do such a humiliating thing in public? And according to the article, like the jerkoffs that they are, the male agents who made her do this in the first place were laughing at her. These are people who are supposed to be maintaining public safety. It sounds like they’re more interested in being sadistic assholes.

I hope she sues their asses off.

And I hope her new nipple piercings aren’t too painful.

From what I understand, TSA had it posted that one may be asked to remove piercings, and that one may be subject to the company’s terms if one is going to use the company’s service. Secondly, she was asked to remove her piercings behind a screen, not out in the open, in public – So less people saw her remove them, than those who saw her get her piercings. As well, I can’t say I believe completely that the men were laughing at her, and especially with a woman employee standing amongst them (I read in one article that a woman was among one of the two people there).

Not to mention that in an age of national security issues, the idea of asking a woman to remove her nipple piercings while at the airport and flying, that for some mysterious reason set off the metal detector, does not seem like the end of the world.

if they were laughing they were probably laughing at the fact that this woman was so dumb to go to the airport, knowing full and well that security is a HUGE issue, with piercings in that may have had to be removed when she went through the METAL DETECTOR. This woman set herself up for humiliation. It’s just an ignorant person that does something like that. And it pisses me off that other people don’t see her ignorance in it and instead blame “the system”. Come on people they’re keeping your asses safe! Don’t insult them for trying to do their jobs. And what’s wrong with them finding a little humor in the ignorance of others when they are so often the object of criticism by our country?

Some piercings you cant just take out whenever you want. And new piercings you definately cant. Ive walked through with earrings in, a syringe in my purse (egg donation stuff), and other much heavier metal objects before and have never even been questioned. It seems like different sensors at different airports pick up on different amounts of metal. Perhaps if it had been a man with a prince albert piercing who was asked to remove his genital piercing in public, we might be a little more outraged. I know that these officials are trying to keep us safe and whatnot but there have been MANY issues raised about how they do this. Anyone remember that woman who was arrested for having breastmilk in her child’s bottle (which is legal, btw, if you look it up) even though she tried to explain herself? Or that other parent who was asked to drink their child’s beverage as proof it wasn’t poison or something else harmful? Lets be real here, there is protection and then there is overkill.

And REGARDLESS if this woman was “so dumb” or not, no one should have been laughing at her.

I would have laughed at her had I been there. What if she had been hiding a weapon somewhere and it couldn’t be detected because her piercing was setting the alarm off and they just passed it off as that. if it can be removed, it should. Obviously people who have had surgery can’t remove it, but piercings can be removed. If it closes up, boo hoo maybe it’s a sign.

First of all, if you had read the article in depth, it was a hand-held metal detector being waved around her body up close that was beeping because of the piercings. So unless the weapon was hidden INSIDE her breasts, there was really no weapon threat. They saw the piercings, knew that they were setting off the alarm. Bother to throughly read the article next time. And also, if you know ANYTHING about body piercings, which i assume you don’t from the comments you have left, nipple piercings aren’t the type you just “take out” whenever you please. She most likely lost the piercing entirely as well as having had to expose herself to infection. No one likes an infected nipple. The TSA could have easily resolved this without making her remove them, ESPECIALLY with unsanitary pliers not even used for that in the first place.

So basically, unless her nipple rings hid ultra compact, ultra secret little knives or deadly miniature vial of poison, they weren’t a threat. And I’m pretty sure they didn’t.

This isn’t about body piercings at all, this is about how much freedom we as a society give up for a false sense of “safe”.

EXACTLY Dasha, I couldn’t agree more. THank god she didn’t have a copper IUD in, they might’ve made her take that out too.

What r e a l l y pissed me off is that they made her pull out her nipple piercings, even after visually seeing them, and yet had NO problem with her belly button piercing, and didnt even ask her to take that out… please explain that to me?

And I cant believe these girls on here talking shit about this girl. You piss me off even more than the story did when it came out.
