Invisible Children: Find Them, Help Them
You might have heard about Invisible Children by now. Through huge promotional opportunities, such as the Vans Warped Tour and a video by Fall Out Boy dedicated to the cause, Invisible Children have been drawing more attention to themselves these days — thankfully.
This organization has set out to bring peace in Northern Uganda, quite an ambitious endeavor. Initially, Invisible Children was just a documentary. Three filmmakers from Southern California filmed this in 2-3 days. They were ages 24, 21, and 20 at the time. They traveled to Sudan to ‘find a story’.
Instead, they ended up deep in Northern Uganda, witnessing thousands of people suffering from brutal attacks from a rebel group called LORD’S RESISTANCE ARMY. After finishing the film, the three filmmakers knew that they had to do more. They turned Invisible Children into a full fledged nonprofit organization.
Their mission is simple:
To improve the quality of life for war-affected children by providing access to quality education, enhanced learning environments, and innovative economic opportunities for the community.
Simple and yet simultaneously complicated.
Luckily, they have thought of an array of ways in which you can help. They’ve got t-shirts, videos, bracelets, etc. for sale and the profit goes straight toward the cause. Read more about Invisible Children here.

I went to one of their Displace Me events last year. It was designed to replicate some of the conditions that these kids have to face. Basically hundreds of people came to this huge field and we used cardboard boxes to sleep on and were rationed water and saltines. We then got together to watch the various films they've put together and write letters to our government officials. All in all, it was a pretty eye opening experience for someone who has been totally ignorant of the situation. I highly recommend it.

I'm sad to be graduating this year. My school has an amazing student club that raised money for and awareness of the Invisible Children.
