Can either of you in good conscience argue that the murder rate will decrease with more people on the streets with guns in DC?

I agree that this logic is discontenting. I actually did research on gun rights and violence. When the hand gun law was put into act in D.C. the murder rate actually drastically increased although the rest of the country’s murder rate decreased. Criminals are criminals and will obtain guns any way that they can, be it legal or not. It’s the everyday citizens that are denied self protection via gun ownership when gun laws are passed. The debate centering around the second amendment concerns whether or not the right to bear arms extends to private citizens. No one would argue that the second amendment bans private citizens from owning weapons. The link between gun violence and firearm laws has already been established. Check out http://www.bradycampaign.org/issues/gvstats/ DC has many problems-- it has an HIV-AIDs rate comparable to sub-Saharan Africa,some of the worst gang violence, and endemic poverty. These factors contribute to it having the highest Firearm death rate per capita. The gun ban didn't solve any of these issues-- but one can only imagine how much worse things will be now.

I'm not buying your argument for the recent Supreme Court decision. Can you name a court decision that indicates the second amendment bans private citizens from having weapons?

I don't think you can establish a link between gun violence and rigidity of firearm laws. DC had one of the most restrictive firearm laws in the country but had the highest Firearm Death Rate per 100,000. What does that even mean?? I'm not going to guarantee that violence will decrease with this decision, but I don't see how the 1975 law helped.

I don't even own a gun and I'm upset at your logic.
