"Ethnic performers not being in the right movies" Excuse my language but,,,, That’s bullshit and you know it. I’m sorry but your speaking like a superior individual that clearly could not comprehend what it is like not being respected and acknowledged for your accomplishments, having to work not twice but in many cases 10 times as hard as your white counterparts. First of all there have been several African American in prominent roles, and for the ones that have not been in prominent roles it because the white media heads chose to cast the white girl or guys over them 9 time out of 10. As African American, we don’t need to make up racism, and inequality in the movie industry or any other industry. It has already been created, so where not complaining, where just alarming other people to open there minds and try for once to understand what us as minorities go through. Yes I know your not black so its not your problem but if your sick of us so called "complaining" then help us eliminate the inequality and racism and guess what we will shut up! And lastly we know why, its because of evil people and their small minds, and the horrible effect of passing it on from generation to generation. That is why we are still dealing with it today, yes today it still exists, whether you choose to believe it or not because it was taught to those people. Unfortunately ignorance and hate is contagious.

Steven- Newsflash this is not "only" a issuse because certain people want to make this an issue, its an issue because it's just another sign of the lack of equality that relies in this country and people are sick and tired of being on the crap end of it. If they dont make it an issue, then everyone will think its alright and it will continue to go on. Talk about igorant, the stereotypes are not there because young african americans arent doing anything about it, they are there because white people have put them upon us, and well being the majority..."majority rules". While we can excel in academics, leaderships roles, and politics just to name a few because the majority does not want African Americans to be those avenues, we wont. No matter how hard we work, and how much we excel, we will still unfortunately be stereotyped as highschool dropouts, serving 20 to life, with 10 + children. And why on earth would you suggest that the problem is that"there are less African American and minorities that want to act" Of course there are clearly alot more that were put on that list, hell people even posted names. It not the lack of African Americans/minorities, its the lack of white media companies including film companies recognizing that there are more actress and actors out there that are not white.

This is from Co-ed magazine which was disussing the same topic so i figured i'd add the good points of the other posters to here:

I totally agree with the editor on this one!The article focused on the up and coming and unknowns….How about Melonie Diaz,Elijiah Kelley,Alice Braga, Jurnee Smollett,Keke Palmer,Victor Rasuk, etc?!

Annie says :

Some of those people I’ve never heard of (ms anonymos) but i loved Kelley in Hairspray and Rasuk in Lords of Dogtown and Raising Victor Vargas though!

Melonie Diaz is a good one, now I’d love to see her in one of these pictures in a bathing suit

vanity fair’s bias toward white actors is nothing new…i cancelled my subscription there more than 10 years ago citing their exclusions and/or token representation of people of color in any of their hollywood-centric issues.

really, there is SUCH an issue at vanity fair about people of color! has been for a v. long time.

hella says :

Jason, I am so tired of racists whining about how we need to ignore the exclusion of minorities and to find a new subject to talk about so the status quo will continue on.

Jason says :

July 6, 2008 at 12:21 pm

Hella, just because I said I was tired of hearing people complain about Race does not mean I am a Racist! It simply means I am tired of hearing people always complain about it.

FavFan says :

July 7, 2008 at 1:43 am

Zoe Kravitz not white but Jewish and African American, Rob Brown African American, and Summer Bishil a little of everything.

letsBreal says :

July 8, 2008 at 5:32 pm

Zoe Kravitz? Rob Brown? C’mon there are way more talented minority actors then them if anything they could have been added to these additions….Rachael Taylor? Nobody knows who the hell she is except for her “hot chick” role in transformers for about 30 min onscreen! Favfan the author of the article said there were 2 ppl of nonwhite origin already out of 28…so he forgot one lol My god…are there any hispanic actors or asians even in this spread?!!!!

R.I.P.PimpC says :

July 8, 2008 at 5:38 pm

Damn, 2 out of 28!That is pretty bad, how could people not notice the deficit? LMAO @ Real- I forgot she was even in Transformers to be honest

Boricua Morena says :

Kudos to the Editor for putting a light on racism in Hollywood! It’s hard to be an female actor in Hollywood but even harder to be a minority too! The roles are slim to none

Dudes, Black publications and businesses like BET and Ebony were started because Blacks were being excluded from their mainstream counterparts. They're raison d'etre is to provide an outlet for those being excluded, not to exclude. similarly, affirmative action is necessary to counteract institutionalized racism and sexism. so chill, all y'all.

The issue all though primarily white, does show some diversity. Zoe Kravitz, Ron Brown both African American. Then there is Summer Bishil who is indian, german, scottish, and mexican descent. Who by the way is staring in two upcoming hard hitting films.

so if ebony or jet or the naacp or any publication like that listed a "future" top 20 and they were all black would we have reason to be upset. So what if only 3 were black. I read it and the last thing i thought about was the percentage of white/black/latino/green whatever. The race card gets played every fn time something comes up. GIVE IT UP.

Whites aren't the only ones who conquer and enslave others and their resources, we just do it better than most. I'm not bragging, just stating historical facts. If you're feeling like whitey is really evil just take a look at what is happening over in Africa for the last...i don't know...500 years. Blacks killing blacks in such a manner as to call it genocide. Clean up your own back yard

its interesting to see the race issue has not changed much for all races. all races have alot of learning to do and this is real. black people need to stop complaining and start taking care of themselves and stop blaming other people. white people need to wake up understand what other races are going through, their is not ivory magazine because their is already millions off ivory magazines.

I think Liz said it best when she brought up the fact that there are things in the world that actually matter(genocide, world hunger, AIDS) yet people get upset about a magazine with a bunch of white people in it. WAKE UP!!

and yvette, as a fellow person a color, it's people like you that make it hard for the rest us colored people(black/latino/asian/biracial). I'm proud of my black heritage and it angers me what was done to my people years ago, but hating every white person I see doesn't heal times' wounds. Do you think Martin Luther King Jr. fought for equality so we can all run around screaming "KILL THE WHITE MAN!"??? NO! And yes I personally know that white privilege still exists, but not every white person holds those ideals.

Yvette is a closed-minded bigot who believes she isn't. I didn't choose my ancestors, I didn't choose where I cam from, neither did anyone else. The arguments she is making are thoughtless and cruel, and she will eventually get her, oh what was the term she used, "just desserts".
