Those problems tend to spill over into other areas, even replacing them. Remember those pictures of her making out with like, 3 different Italian guys in one night right after she got out of rehab? She might not have been doing drugs, but she was still acting out, and I think this flirtation with lesbianism is similar. Plus, with such a chaotic family, she'll probably always have a tendency to recreate that chaos in her own life--whether by having an unstable sexual identity* or something else. *That's certainly not to imply that real, bonified bisexuality or even bicuriosity = instability; but I think that in her case, her history and sudden switch between sexes implies exactly like.
