12 Year Old Girl Makes Me Hate My Life

girl.jpgWhen I was 12 I had thick bangs, giant braces and a wardrobe that consisted of my brothers’ yellow-crusted-arm-pitted-hand-me-downs. I wore Umbros – one leg green, one leg purple – and maroon reverse fit jeans (read: mom jeans). I thought I was super stylish when I threw on one of my brother’s flannel button downs…and only buttoned the middle one!

I realize times have changed and fashion is a lot more accessible to the youngsters, but this girl is really making me feel like sh*t. Even now. And I really love my wardrobe. Or, I did, until I started seeing hers.

I don’t really know who this chicadee is and I totally question who is really behind the writing of this blog (because there is no way in hell a 12 year old could write this way….and if she can, I hate her even more), but none of that really matters. This little fashionista clearly exists…and obviously does so just to make us normal people feel bad about ourselves.

The whole thing is just crazy. She struts her chic NYC style down the hallways of her middle school. She rocks vintage frocks as she jumps the swings on the playground. And she can rock a look like this without looking totally ridiculous.

I know that I always get jealous of some of my friends’ wardrobes (because they shop at Bloomies while I shop at Target), but a 12 year old? I feel pathetic. I feel pissed. I feel old. I feel sorta pedophile-y for spending so much time checking her out.

Yeah, I came upon this the other day. It took me a while to figure out that she was 12. I think the writing makes it slightly more suspect than the fashion, though. I remember reading Vogue when I was in middle school and being fairly obsessed with that high fashion world. However, I was a middle class kid living in the South with a mother who didn’t share my interest, so I was still rocking the Limited Too oversize sweatshirts.

eek looks like she’s ‘taking a break’… either she got spooked or someone had lots of ’splainin to do.

She looks like Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girls in some of her photos.

But I have to agree, her mature writing makes me suspicious of her age. Part of me worries she’s victim to some sicko or crazy fashion mother or something of the sort.

    She is, nonetheless, completely adorable.

Yeah doesnt it look like some creepo kidnapped her, gave her a sick wardrobe and makes her take these pictures all over teh citY? Like a fashion version of a pedophile?

after i posted i went out with my dog and i conjured up my theory.

    i think she’s someone’s muse.

like an older person is using her cute persona and pictures but using their writing to make it super interesting. we’ll see if she comes back…. why all of a sudden now that she’s been the subject of a few blogs she poof dissapears… it’s almost like someone doesn’t want to get caught.

I agree, I did feel a bit pedophiley- not to mention jealous. It was a miracle I even discovered limited too in 7th grade- I was at a homeschooler level of fashion! I don’t mean FLDS, but close…. very close.

I know a eight year old who reads (and can comprehend) college level books for fun. So Tavi actually being 12 is completely plausible. On the other hand many people look like teens far into their twenties. I’m 25 and people still ask me what grade I’m in AND I get carded at the movies. lol.

Shes taking “a break” now so that probably means no more Tavi…beacause who quits blogging after the media catches wind of them? Only someone with something to hide would shy away from media attention. Like Ela said, looks as if someone is trying to avoid being found out, or they’d have had Tavi on every morning news program in America by now.

You’re not the only one who dislikes her; the above article appeared in NYT Mag in which they believe she’s not 12 and it’s a cult following of sorts… I honestly don’t really know what to think though the NYT Mag article could be the reason she went to “a break”.

Please note, Winona is 23 and also has appeared in NYT.

Don’t worry about it hun. I get the same way when I see really pretty 17/18 year old girls, but about this young chicklet – maybe her parents are artists, designers, anything to justify why she’s walking around making us older girls a *little* bit jealous. I blame my parents. =)

lol.. just read through her posts and she IS freaking crazy this little girl. She’s cute and creative, and it’s refreshing to see not all young girls aspire to be those girls from High School Musical. Look at her! She’s into geek chic! Also –she’s PREPUBESCENT so no wonder she can fit into all those random clothes. =) x x x x

Her face looks too old for a pre-teen. perhaps she has stunted growth?

    Whatever it is, she’s adorable.

Forget her clothes/writing, I’m jealous of her hair! It looks good in EVERY PICTURE. I bet she doesn’t even have to blow-dry it, or whatever. Meanwhile I’ve been fighting with my hair since age five. When I was twelve, my mom braided my hair into two pigtails every morning and that was that.

The CC Weekly Weigh In: Let’s Say Thanks

Like most families, mine gathers around the dinner table on Thanksgiving and (after making fun of each other for a few minutes) shares what they are most thankful for that year. Growing up, I hated this tradition; it was so cheesy and lame. But now that I’m an adult, going around the table at Thanksgiving allows me to tell my family how much I love them…
