One of the more exhilirating experiences of my life was visiting Onondaga Cavern in Missouri. I was writing my novel at the time, "Zan-Gah: A Prehistoric Adventure." The notes I took at the time were used almost word for word in the chapter called "The Cave." I was impressed by animals without eyes, among other things.

Alright, here's a section: "The water seemed perfectly still, but when Zan stuck his spear into it, the invisible current nearly took the weapon out of his hand. Where it was shallow he could see a few pale fish and eyeless salamanders. The further they went, the more the water dripped, sculpting the interior into fantastic shapes that glowed eerily in the light of their torches."

Heck yes! I went caving for the first time last semester. I live in Texas and there are caves everywhere. It was seriously the coolest thing I've ever done. I felt like such a badass when I climbed out all covered in dirt with scrapes and bruises on my arms. Totally amazing.
