The Five Sweetest Summertimey Things!

bucks.jpgSummer is not coming to a close! Do not listen to your television blaring “back to school” commercials at you! Keep on loving the sun and living the summertime life. Here are my five favorite things about summer – the good, the bad and the sweaty.

5

1. Venti Starbucks Iced Passion Tea Lemonade (with two pumps of melon):

If you haven’t tried this drink, walk… no, RUN, to your nearest Starbucks. Don’t worry; if you live in America it will probably be no further than a block away. This drink is the greatest non alcoholic summer beverage I’ve consumed. I’ve even attempted to make it the greatest alcoholic beverage I’ve consumed. Do not mix with vodka! Not good. Anyway, it’s sweet, tangy, caffeine free and most importantly, it’s pink.

The bad?: Friends mock you for embarrassingly long and girly drink order and local Starbucks staff start knowing you as “Two Pump Melon Girl.”

2. Rainbow flip flops

Obvious summertime staple! These go with everything and flip flops are the only shoe of choice for the summer. I have a beach pair, which are completely destroyed and a nice pair, which are on their way to being completely destroyed. Can wear these to class, bars and the gym. But only to the gym if you plan on just walking around observing, in lieu of legit exercise. My kind of gym shoes!

The bad?: Breaking these suckers in will scar your feet for life. These seemingly innocent flip flops do more damage than most stilettos, so wear your Barbie band-aids!

3. Colorful cotton sundresses

Whether it’s C&C or Gap, do not pass up any opportunity to load up on as many sundresses as possible. They look adorable on everyone, they breathe well and you can’t rock them year round (especially in New England) so go buy a ton, ruin your credit and strut around looking hot right now. You can pay off credit when you’re old and sundresses don’t look so hot on you anymore.

The Bad?: Watch out for see through cotton! Some girl on the train was rocking a completely sheer, too-tight white cotton number and I could totally see BOTH of her nipple rings. Tacky and uncute!

4. Ice cream

Ohmygod. I could live on ice cream, especially in the summer. It’s so cold and sweet and amazing and really never ever lets you down! Mint chip is always a safe bet, but check out Ben & Jerry’s “Karamel Sutra.” It’s half chocolate-chocolate chip and half vanilla with pure caramel in the center. Mmmmmm.

The Bad?: Ice cream weight plus bathing suits. If you must cut back on your ice cream intake, I recommend Haagen Dazs raspberry sorbet or any fat free frozen yogurt. With rainbow sprinkles, naturally!

5. Summer Blockbusters

When it’s narsty and rainy outside summer movies are the only way to go. Grab your boyfriend, your girlfriends, sister, parents, whoever and head to your local theater. If you want to laugh, start getting psyched for Pineapple Express (I’m planning on camping out for it), and if you want to be blown away, go see The Dark Knight. Christian Bale is hot, even when it’s not outside.

The Bad?: Brain freeze from Slush Puppies. Is there anything worse? No! Brainfreeze can ruin the greatest films ever.

Thanks for the Starbucks drink suggestion! However, I disagree about Rainbows being hard to break in. I've been wearing them for years and never had a problem with a new pair.

That Starbucks drink suggestion is completely on target. I always order it when I go to Starbucks -even the melon pumps- and am totally surprised that someone else gets it the same way!
