yeah every time i get evaluated they tell me yes i have OCD but im not a severe enough case or something to get medication. they said this based on how much it interferes with my everyday life. i dunno, i know im stressed out as heck with it sometimes, but unlike many other people ive met im able to go to school and function while im there. i guess thats why my case gets taken a little more lightly. my main reason for not pushing the meds though was cause im on birth control for health reasons, but it gives me side effects, and im afraid if i get any more side effects in my lifetime im going to freak out. the birth control pills kind of put me between a rock and a hard place... i was getting sick while i was on them, but not as sick as i am now lol. i guess i just have a slew of health problems.

kudos for quitting though, heh i know how hard it is!

I don't want these commercials to stop. There are always new generations that we need to educate... Especially because if people were effective at communicating how STUPID some actions are in the first place, welllllll I'm sure we wouldn't be making a lot of mistakes that our parents knew about.

heather-

hey i know what you're talking about. i don't smoke anymore, but the most addictive part of my short-lived smoking was the relaxation aspect of it. i went to the doc, after a pre-finance final meltdown, and he game me some happy pills that made cigarettes look like toddler toys. i'm not promoting drug use, but if you really have OCD or major anxiety issues then you're entitled to some help. it's not a 'high' but it def is better than filling your lungs with tar and making you smell like an ashtray.

as soon as i started taking em i totally was disgusted by cigarettes. like the SMELL made me want to vomit, it was so weird! please please help yourself- the cigs aren't helping, they're killing!!! you'll be the happiest calmest (and healthier) chica on earth, with a bangin GPA. :) good luck!

yeah, i smoke but i know that i shouldnt. i quit once for like 6 months and then it fell apart. i dont actually plan to smoke my entire life, but right now is probably the worst time ever for me to try quitting.

Why I Can't Seem to Quit -

I am in college. It's not the parties, but the stress that I get from school that is constantly there. It's almost like doing well pushes me back in this one area... I have a 4.0 GPA, and while I never thought I could do something like that, I also have the pressure of keeping this acheivement under me. I'm also hoping the GPA can give me money for grad school.

I also have an anxiety disorder, OCD, which makes any stress I feel extremely amplified. It may also explain some of the obsession over my grades, though I know that desperately wanting money for grad school is normal. And I can't for the life of me think of anything that will relax me as much in five minutes in the middle of my hectic schedule as a cigarette.

i know I will quit someday, but i really dont know how the hell to do it. and i think thats why i failed the first time.

My mom has pretty much drilled it into my, my sister's, and my brother's brains since we were little that if we smoke we WILL die. both her parents, all of her aunts and uncles, her sister, her grandfather, some of her cousins, and some of her great grandparents and great aunts and uncles ALL died of lung cancer. So my family is pretty susceptible to getting lung cancer. It worked for my sister and me, unfortunately my little brother has been smoking since he was 12.

If Truth could get one of those cartoon characters from "the magical amount" to follow me around on bar crawls, then I might just think twice about pestering everyone within a 5 mile radius for a cig. THAT would be effective advertising.

yeah...at this point EVERYONE who has access to cigarettes knows they fuck you up...further advertising is useless cause it's just repeating what everyone knows. Most smokers I know are of the opinion that if they dont get lung cancer from smoking they'll get cancer from something else. They're of the 'we all end up the same way' mind. To each their own, I guess.
