I’m a bio major on a pre-med track, and i fit the stereotype to a certain degree lol. sure i study and care about the grades i get (bc sadly gpa determines where we can get the best education later). so i apologize for all the premeds out there for being anal and obsessive. most of us do make time for being normal though

My boyfriend is a Chemical Engineering major, and about to graduate next spring.

And one of my best friends is just about finished with nursing school, after it took him years of studying through almost every night just to get in.

I know for a fact they work just as hard (if not harder) than most “pre-meds,” but they definitely dont go around flaunting it others faces either…

REE, wow they belittle you for being a journalism major? that’s weak. journalism isn’t an easy major my any means. there was nothing worse in college than people who would ask you your major just so they could announce theirs to everyone and claim superiority. business school is no candy land either trust me- finance blows.

Haha, totally agree. I’m starting med school in 2 weeks and have prided myself on avoiding pre-meds other than in my required classes. Not everyone is like this but I am certainly glad I chose to be a well-rounded person rather than a medicine-obsessed one-hit wonder.

I’m pre-med, and I’d say the only trait I have is number 4. Although, I have noticed that pre-med’s always want to know what you’re going to specialize in. And they treat you like crap if you’re not specializing. I’m training in medicine so I can go to Burma, Uganda, and other lovely places. Why the fuck would I want to specialize in plastic surgery or podiatry. Money grubbing jackasses.

Oh thank God – I thought it was just me… my two best friends are pre-med and this is seriously alllll they talk about. When I try to call them out on it, they simply don’t understand what else I would WANT to talk about. They don’t understand what life is outside of grades. And they think that if I do, I’m going to flunk out of school. (I’m a journalism major… which they also have no trouble reminding me that my major isn’t NEARLY as tough as there’s. In fact, they typically tell me that mine is a cake walk.)

I actually find nursing students to be more high strung than Pre-Med students. I know a nursing student who literally studied every day for hours. She had a test supposedly every week and had to study for it. The poor girl tried so hard to have a life but just couldn’t sometimes.

I completely agree with this article. I don’t believe it applies to every pre-med student, it certainly applies to the majority. I’m a pre-med student majoring and Neuroscience, and those reasons that Blair stated are the exact reasons I can not hang around other pre-med students. They make me stress out more than the prospect of medical school itself.

I knew a girl who was bound to be pre-med. I always thought, “wow, she has no life. All she does is stare at books. And act competitive.”

Recently she got hot and got married and has fabulous hair. PLUS she’s gonna be a doctor.

Pre-med isn’t a major. You can take any major, even something crazy like dance or business, as long as you complete the pre-med requirements- chem, bio, physics, calc, etc. I’m a pre-med student and I don’t think it’s weird when people ask me what I’m taking and I say pre-med because that’s the goal and it would just be throwing them off if I answered just bio.
