A Healthy Diet Can Include French Fries
August 21, 2008 Posted in Body

I get asked about my diet a whole lot. As my peers are getting older every year (because I am…and you are, too), it’s become progressively more difficult for lots of my lady friends to keep the figures that they want. But, some way or another, it’s become easier for me.
I used to eat whatever I wanted and exercised only when I wanted to. My metabolism was sickly fast and I just figured I was healthy because I was skinny. Over the past few years, I have slowly learned to eat right and to exercise right, too. Now that it’s a part of my routine, it’s easier than ever to be healthy.
BUT I still need to be unhealthy here and there. Some people I know can eat healthy 24-7 without any screw-ups. I am not one of those people. My diet regime that I get asked about so much actually DOES include days where I eat all of the wrong stuff. I have these days maybe once every week or two and nothing sets me back on track for healthy eating faster than a day filled with fried food and chocolate treats.
Are they good for my arteries and liver? Hell no.
Am I being unhealthy by indulging in these days? Hell yes.
But I still feel as though I am better off throwing these days in here and there (and savoring my sweets) than to always wonder what I’m missing, or living a bland life full of carrots and bottled water.
Here is a typical day’s worth of food for me:
BREAKFAST
1 or 2 packets of oatmeal and Iced Coffee with nonfat creamer.
LUNCH
Fruit: 1/2 a cantelope, an apple, a banana, strawberries, or whatever else. Water.
DINNER
Huge Salad: Spinach, hard boiled egg, tomato, cucumber, mushrooms, string beans, reduced fat feta cheese, low fat or nonfat dressing. Water.
SNACKS
If I want snacks, I usually go for carrots and hummus or nuts. Lots of water.
As you can see, I am typically pretty on cue with my health. But every so often, I throw days like the one below in the mix:
BREAKFAST
Turkey Bacon, Eggs, Cheese, Croissant, Coffee with *regular* creamer
LUNCH
Cheeseburger, Fries, LOTS OF KETCHUP, beer/wine spritzer
DINNER
Lots of pizza, wings, tons of beer
SNACKS
Beer. Chocolate. Cupcakes. Cookies. You name it.
Somehow, I feel like adding in these days makes me complete. I feel like I live my life to the fullest and yet I’m still BASICALLY healthy. I feel like if I didn’t have a beer or a burger smothered with cheese every now and then I would die.
What do you guys think?

before i would only eat healthy food. but the problem was i'd eat A LOT OF IT bc it wasn't satisfying me. now, i just skip it and indulge in something that i want (i'm a fry-o-holic) EVERY DAY. i end up eating much less bc i just cut the BS and go straight for that i want and not try to drown myself in soycrisps or carrots and ranch bc… THEY'RE NOT FRIES! i ended up shedding like 15 lbs and now i'm eating pizza, pasta, fires and chips bc i satisfy that craving instead of downing a lot of 'health food', which doesn't do anything but fill you with false hope and cals. (i also go to a restaurant and order a salad with a side of fries haha my trademark)

What you eat every day is not very balanced. You're supposed to eat some dairy and meat, fish or poultry daily.

I wouldn't say you are "on cue" with your health. You're eating less than 1000 calories a day most of the time, which is equivalent to starving yourself. Then, you're eventually binging upwards of 4 or 5000 calories a day. Why not splurge one meal a day, rather than one day a month? Don't you think you think you'd savor it more that way? You're wreaking havoc on your blood sugar and metabolism. I don't mean to be preachy; I just know that this is borderline disordered eating, and it's really bad for you. I'm sure your energy level is suffering as well.

i think all the advice is great but at the same time it's a subjective issue.depending on her metab and blood sugar needs… her diet is plenty healthy. i see proteins, carbs and complex sugars for energy. if he doesn't exercise daily or doesn't move a lot on a normal day, she shouldn't need more than the calories she's putting in. the most important part is that she FEELS satisfied and good, not weak and hungry…

some protein would be nice…
there's no way i'd make it through the day on a diet like that, especially with the lack of carbs…
i guess it's an ok diet if you're not physically active?
i honestly thought you were a vegetarian until i saw what you binge on haha
i say stick to what you like, but keep things in moderation…
i'm filipino, so there's a lot of rice/carbs in my diet.
so what i try to do is just cut what i would usually eat in half, but eat often throughout the day to keep my metabolism going…
i pretty much eat what you binge on lol

Honestly her diet is pretty healthy. BTW the protein comes from hummus, nuts, eggs and the dairy comes from cheese, so yea if we all ate like that obesity wouldn't be such a issue.
