Want a Free Pair of Chuck Taylors? What About a Trip to NY?

conversejouneyssh1.jpg

I am not a musical person. I can’t hit the beat on Guitar Hero and anyone who has ever heard me sing tries to block out the memory. But if you love the whole music thang (and are actually good at it) this may just be your lucky day.Converse and Journeys have paired up to bring you the “Get Out of the Garage” music contest! Basically, you can win a free trip to NYC for 4 days, 3 nights of free studio time to create and mix your own song!

Yeah, that’s right: record your own freaking song.

All you have to do is head to the mall and pick up a self-addressed envelope at any Journeys shoe store. Pop a recording of your jam into the envelope (only one song, ladies) and get that badboy in the mail. Not a fan of snail mail? Don’t feel like wasting precious gas goin’ to the mall? No problemo; you can upload your song here. Easy as pie.

There will be a whole lot of judging, but Downtown Records will choose the top song . The winner will take the prize of a free trip to NYC for 4 days, 3 nights of free studio time to create and mix their own song.

The remaining 9 finalists will receive a pair of Converse shoes, a gift certificate from Converse, and prizing from Guitar Center to be determined. All songs submissions must be sent to Cornerstone for judging by September 15th.

Not a music fan? Have no fear. The people over at Converse/Get Out of the Garage love CC so much they have given us a prizepack to award to one lucky reader. After all, we can’t all be rockstars, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve cool sh*t.

The pack includes: a gift certificate for a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars and swag from Downtown Records which includes CDs from Santogold, Gnarls Barkley and Spankrock, a signed poster from Gnarls Barkley and an Official Ed Banger Records III metal badge.

How do you win? Simply tell us your favorite outfit to pair with a pair of Chuck Taylors in the comments section below. If we like your outfit, you win. We will be choosing Friday August 29th at 4pm EST, so get your outfits in.

Hmm…let’s see. My favorite outfit to wear with my chucks…

    would be a deep v-neck tee…

and a dark pair of skinny jeans…

Take note that my black chucks are nearly destroyed and they don a pair of bright green laces, rather than white.

I really like to make my outfits simple…and I rock them quite well, I like to think.

My fav outfit to wear my chuck tailors with is with a girly baby doll dress. The bright colors and frills coupled with a pair of converse give it a ying/yang type of feel. Two conflicting styles mirrors my personality perfectly – Uber girly girl and rockstar tomboy =]

ZOMG. My band MUST do this!

(skinny jeans + black belt + vintage concert/band tee + Chuck Taylors = win. can’t wear anything else when i’m playing with my band, whether we’re practicing or on stage :-D )

My Chuck Two-Tones, board shorts, frosh week t-shirt, and a bandana. It’s not remotely fashionable, and the t-shirt has since been relegated to the pile of clothes I wear only to the gym, but it’s what I wore hiking in the Baravian Alps summer after my freshman year, and it’s comfortable and awesome (and possibly why my old Chucks fell apart and had to be tossed).

In all honesty, Chuck Taylors go with everything from dresses to skinny jeans, from pioneer blouses to 3-piece suits. However, even with this universal property, there has to be the optimum outfit. The outfit that is as flexible as Chuck Taylors themselves. So why not a plain and simple jeans and a t-shirt? Perhaps it’s not the most fashionable haute couture, but it works for everyone, and if a blazer or earrings or high waisted belt is a necessary accessory, so be it. But Chuck Taylors need nothing to be a best outfit; an outfit needs Chuck Taylors.
