No Way! 5 Trends I’d Never Rock

gladiator-shoes.jpgI like to think of myself as pretty fashion forward, but there are certain things I just cannot get into. They are as follows:

13

1. Hot Pants. After watching Katy Perry strut her girl-smooching stuff at the 2008 MTV VMAs, I couldn’t get over her outfit. While her hair and makeup was flawless, she was sporting some seriously short-shorts. Maybe it’s because my thighs would look horrendous, or maybe its because I just think shorts that look like underwear are not flattering on anyone, but hot pants are a definite no.

2. The Nicole Richie Headband. I don’t mind pushing your hair back when you need to get it out of your face, but that headband over your hair, Woodstock look that Nicole Richie and the like sport all the time, just doesn’t work for me.

3. Baggy Jeans and Heels. You can thank Katie Holmes for this one. Baggy, loose fitting jeans are for men, ladies. I’m not saying we need to wear ‘em skin tight, but the fall-off-your-hips look and saggy ass is so NOT flattering.

4. Scarves in the Summer. 100 degrees in LA and people are wearing scarves with T-shirts. I don’t get it. Scarves are for the winter peeps, leave ‘em there.

5. Gladiator Shoes. I like me a little dominatrix look, definitely, very sexy, but not when they’re over the top. Some of these shoes are just wayyyyy too much. Too much leather. Too many studs. Too high of a heel. Tone it done and let it work.

What are some trends YOU despise???

AH I know! Summer scarves = dumb. My best friend wears one and thinks it looks good. If I only had the heart to let her know what I really think..

I like Gladiator sandals- they stay on my feet and let my feet breath. Some are over the top (heels, what?) but the ones in the picture there, I would rock that.

In full agreement with the summer scarves..like I’ve never seen anyone look more retarded than a person with a tank top, sunglasses, shorts, flip-flops…and friggin scarf.

    Yes. They’re cute

. . . for winter..so for those of you to whom this applies– please..stop trying to show off your Fall accessories in the Summer time..

    IT’S NOT A GOOD LOOK!

    /end rant

Those knee high gladiator sandal things are terrible. That will most definitely be a look you will think back on in 5 years and wonder what the hell you were thinking.

I agree with the kitten heel. Either give me four inches or nothing at all. It's like a shoe that can't commit. And who needs that!

No matter how "in fashion" it is, I cannot stand to see a girl walking around wearing leggings as pants.

Ew. No one wants to see the front of those things, and unless you have the lower body of a VS model, they do not look flattering on you.

Let's leave the spandex bottoms for the volleyball players… eek.

This is one of those columns by a hetero girl for hetero girls in which the presumed target, (hetero boys), is ignored. Guys like the looks above–and a scarf can be sexy, hot or cold–so ignore the advice. And never dress according to fashion mags unless you wanna please Perez Hilton.

What kills me about the headbands is when they slide up on a girl's (or guy's) head, bringing the hair up top with it, creating a perfectly moronic-looking mushroom head.

    Really, that's cool? Sigh…

I kind of like the scarf trend. I don’t think it’s that bad, actually, they’re cute if done right. Granted, I wouldn’t wear one when it’s 90 degrees and humid outside, but as the weather gets cooler/less humid, I approve.

However, I do HATE the leggings trend. No. No. No. No.

I agree completely with Nat. Its not like the scarves are heavy fleece or knit- there's nothing wrong with a light silk scarf, because the point of those are to accessorize, not to keep warm. And I made a vow to myself I'd never wear leggings. I'm sorry, but in my opinion a long shirt that barely covers the ass + tight leggings in ridiculous colors looks soooooo white trash to me

I wear scarves for a few good reasons in the summer.

    1. Sun protection. I'm pale as a ghost and they protect my neck, and more if so needed.

    2. Rain. Rain is random here in Boston and I hate umbrellas. I only really worry about my hair getting wet anyways, so a scarf is perfect.

    3. Theaters. Or really any place I know has an overpowered air conditioner.

Its less about fashion for me, and more about functionality because of my grandmother's pale skin, always cold genes that I luckily received.

I think it's a matter of personal style. How boring or how much would you hate it when every other girl you see is wearing the same things you are!? Or have the same style (aka A&F/Hollister/AE)!? I would hate it. So I wear what I like and I get a ton of compliments and I get a ton of "WTF are you wearing" and it doesn't matter because I am comfortable with who I am and what I wear. Cool. I do wear gladiators and red plaid pants and i wear scarves in the summer with tank tops and i wear high waisted shorts and mini skirts and tights that are two different colours (each leg one) and some other typical shit like ripped jeans, skinny jeans, tshirts and converse.

Tell us what you're thinking...
