You should get the facts straight before reporting anything. It wasn't student versus student and he wasn't leaving a campus party, but rather the only bar within walking distance of campus. However, I do agree that anything can happen on or off campus, but this is a student that already had been there for four years (graduating in May of 07) and continued for his graduate degree. Bryan definitely knew the area and its potential threat and was not walking alone or looking to start fights. Fights do occur, and some people do not fight fairly.

Bryan just got back from filming in Pakistan with our good mutual friend. He understood the dangers in that country as well as the area surrounding USC. Terrible all around but I do not see this as a forum to say everyone thinks they live in a safe bubble while attending a university.

I think that is very naive. No matter how patrolled a campus is, things can happen. It is GREAT that you feel safe at your school, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be careful. I am not quite sure how you can criticize me for reminding students to stay safe.

My bad. (Sarcasm, in case you didn't notice)

You word this article as if this happened on campus. This happened off campus, which means that areas off campus are not necessarily safe. USC campus is heavily patrolled which makes it very safe. Personally, I feel extremely safe walking alone on campus at any hour of the day or night. When I lived on campus I did so very often. On the other hand I would never walk alone off campus at night. If you look at past incidences, most crime (more than 90% base off emails I receive directly from USC Department of Public Safety) happens off campus at night. You say "Please think about this when you head out tonight and this weekend." If they live on campus and are going somewhere on campus, there really isn't anything to worry about.
