People need to be more open honest about what they want out of a relationship(s)- with others and themselves. I knew that when I was younger that I didn't want a relationship, and told anyone who I was going to have sex with whether it was long term or short term. Now, I'm in a relationship, because I want to be, and its with someone worth the effort, and I don't want to cheat because there is "no void to fill"- if I'm ever unsatisfied about anything we talk about it.

Apparently they have also found some monogamy gene:

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=5702390&page=1

...not that that's an excuse. We love to blame our defects on genetics. But hey, I've cheated- twice. And I am not really sorry for either occurrence. Both times, the relationship was all but technically over, and in my heart I had already moved on. It was simply a matter of finding the time to make a phone call.

I don't really think there is any excuse for cheating. Period. I have been in several long term relationships, too many short term relationships to count, and of course the obligatory one stands.......in the nearly 19 years I have been dating, I have not cheated once. I have been tempted, of course, and the opportunities have been endless, but I don't think its the right thing to do. Practicing restraint is hard, but usually all it takes is a thought of how I would feel if the woman I was with was cheating on me (and that has happened before)

I think people have gotten away from dating.......dating multiple people without the sex, finding someone you like and taking it to the next level. If you must feel compelled to cheat, you are clearly with the wrong person.

I wonder if the idea brought into religion about a single partner was so that the lords and kings could have their pick of girls while everyone else gets stuck with just one other person? Or just so it kept the peace in a town, cos we all know that dark side of "what if!" when it comes to your partner.

It's easier to get away with not keeping the peace since small towns are a dying breed. No?

Cheating is awful. But are humans truly monogomous or are we just trying to conform to the ideal that we should all want one partner and for our entire lives (according to most religions). We have to define cheating as well, is the girlfriend that kisses another girl (and likes it) cheating, or is it ok to be in a relationship and go 'experiment'? Then for guys, is it ok if they go experiment with other girls not their girlfriend, or even another guy for that matter? There is far too many shades of grey to even remotely define cheating, other than breaking it down to their own relationships which I would say, just don't break the trust of the person you're with.

It seems like most people these days, men or women, cheat. It's sad, really. I'm just thankful that I have a guy who would never cheat, and I know I would never cheat on him either.

I don't like the idea of giving men a reason why cheating might be sorta excused. I don't care if it's harder for them to resist, etc. They just shouldnt do it. Period. If they wanted to cheat, then they just shouldn't get into a relationship in the first place. right?
