While this was biased, and insulting to all lolita. I belive in
fredom of speech, so I'm not going to make a fuss over it. I just think that you should of read more to get a better understanding of the fashion. Yes, I said fashion, not costume.
It's a faishion, just like goth, preppy, nerdy, emo, ect.
I know that evey fashion has stereotypes, but for the most part there not true. I was friends with an emo, and she was one of the happiest people I'd evey meet. Then I became friends with the preps, and they weren't total skanks. It's the same with lolita stereotypes are just hurtful, and untrue.
There are many lolita who, would give you black eye if you even look at them funny. I belive the stereotype your talking about comes from the movie "Kamikaze Girls". And I do not dress lolita to look like little girl,[note: I'm 15, and the mature style do not look good on me yet.]There are many styles that are "adult" and most lolita shift into them by a certain age. Even sweet lolita if done right, can look like refined lady from the rocco era only with a modern twist. This does of course exclude looking like a buffet of sweets. I do not intend to make you a fan of the fashion, but to raise better understanding of not just lolita but every fashion far and wide. If you have any questions at all please feel free to ask.

P.S. What's animae?

@ Jo: actually, if you really look at it, the whole Lolita thing came from European culture anyway. I mean c'mon, Rococo, Victorian, and Edwardian influences, anyone?

So really, what most (specifically the Caucasian crowd) are doing is most likely embracing their own lost culture. They look great in it too, if done correctly: http://juliette-et-justine.com/list/2/

Another lolita here, I just wanted to clarify that most of us actually *don't* act like pretty little princesses all the time. We yell, curse, have sex, drink, smoke, etc. just like anyone else. We just like frilly dresses.

I really think you're complicating things buddy. The lolita style really isn't as "wierd" and "sexual" as you may think. Its about bringing out the little girl inside. I think the fashion is really cute. Besides, you shouldn't shoot down a style like that. Try putting in pros and cons instead of insults.

sry, but "fetishized" is relative.

How does this look like a "daddy-daughter fetish"? I don't associate Lolita fashion with sex and I don't see anything weird like such a fetish in it. I think the association of Lolita fashion depends on the thoughts of the viewer or the person that wears it. That means, when the person that sees the fashion and thinks "omg this looks like a weird fetish" it's not the clothing that makes it look like that, it's more the perverted mind of the viewer that associates everything with sex.

sry for bad english btw.

P.S. - One of my ex-girlfriends was "Lolita" and she ate, slept and breathed it. She got really obsessive about it, always having her head in the clouds. She would spend hundreds on the dresses and accessories and then been penniless for quite some time afterwards. She's one of those white girls who always wanted to be Asian. I guess through doing lolita she thought she was getting there. I've got a personal grudge against this stuff, sorry to offend.

To many people idolize Japan. I think a lot of the responses are from people like that. I'm half Japanese, and I think Lolita is actually sick. Let's live at the age we are, not try to go back into some prepubescent form where dressing up was "Totally cool!" Seriously though, the amount of people I hear talking about the Japanese like they're some higher race drives me bonkers.

I'm surprised that I actually thought this was funny and amusing, in the way you intended it to be. What flew up everybody's petticoat? Geez. I think it's refreshing to read an article that senses the basic essence of Lolita even though the author doesn't participate in it.

Yeah, I disagree with some of it, but they're matters of interpretation, not fact. Not everyone agrees that Lolitas need to have a certain attitude, but it used to be a more popular notion than it is now.

I'm wondering how Lolita has misogynistic tendencies, though. Totally confused about that. Can you elaborate? I've always felt that Lolita (particularly in the US) has a strong feminist undercurrent.
