Bubble shaped skirts are a big trend this fall from the runways of designer brands like (see above) Dior, Armani, and Erin Fetherston. Like the ruffles we’ve seen all season, this silhouette is really flattering; the volume of the skirt makes your legs and waist appear tiny in comparison. It’s also a fresh look for any holiday parties you will be attending this season (you social butterfly, you).
Before you zip into a bubble skirt, there are a few tips you must remember.
First, this type of skirt is definitely OK to go mini with, but if you think you’re showing a little too much leg put on a pair of opaque black tights. You don’t wanna look trampy! Also, when shopping for a bubble skirt, you must try it on! This is not the type of thing that will always fit you the same, so head to the nearest dressing room and make sure that the fabric stays upright and bubbly and doesn’t droop into a saggy mess. Finally, to maximize the slimming effect make sure you wear a tight fitted top (so as not to appear voluminous all over!) and heels to lengthen your legs.

OK, first off, I would like to say that I really do enjoy your column, and that you do a great job of dealing with trends that people are intimidated by or be unsure of. The bubble trend is an excellent example of just that. I can honestly say that I’ve passed over the entire trend so far because I’ve only seen the pieces on the rack, and they don’t exactly look flattering. I think that the examples you pulled to represent the skirts are show just how flattering this style can be. However, I curious if you could elaborate on just how a bubble dress could be flattering? The top two dresses especially seem to completely obscure the shape of the woman’s body, making a silhouette reminiscent of wearing a sack. Granted, I understand a lot of women are uncomfortable about their belly/hips/butt regions, but hiding the form isn’t the answer! It’s like the maternity dress/ billowy empire waist trend that’s been in for the last two summers. It just doesn’t work on anyone who isn’t a complete stick figure without making them look like they’re getting ready to enter their third trimester. With a silhouette that hides everything, guys are going to wonder “gosh, I wonder what her body looks like?” or they’ll just assume the worst about your looks and/or your self confidence.

Are bubble dresses ok for stick-thin petites? I have tried them on but since my body has little shape, the dress just seems to either sag around my behind or overpower my thin limbs
