Kickin’ my Habit: Smoker’s Diary Week 3

Here’s a recap of my progress this past week:

Monday: One smoke after a big lunch at the office

Tuesday: No smokes – go me!!!

Wednesday: Smoked only two during the day; not too shabby

Thursday: Smoked four when I went out for drinks after work.

Friday: One in the afternoon after a big lunch

Saturday: Lots and lots. After I had lots and lots of sake.

Apparently, my demise on quitting smoking is alcohol. I can’t refrain from chain smoking when I’ve had one too many vodka clubs. Therefore, I need to a) only allow myself one a night when I am out drinking or b) not drink anymore. What a fun little world of trying to quit smoking; first, no smokes and now, no booze?!I am not a big drinker, at all actually, but, from time to time, I enjoy a nice cocktail after a long week of work.

How do I learn to balance my non-ability to withhold smoking while drinking and my need for a normal nightlife?

This time I am asking you CC-ers…share some advice and help me.

I will say, however, that I have become increasingly disgusted with the way I smell after I smoke a cigarette, when I used to not be phased by it. That’s got to mean something, no? It is a long battle, one that I will keep trying to overcome, and report to you in the process. Thanks for your support and advice!

Go out with a good friend who supports you, ask her to police you and make sure that you don't smoke! Don't drink so much that you lose control. Try to distract yourself with something- dancing, chatting up a cute guy, whatever. Bring a clutch purse that you have to carry with your hand- drink in one hand, purse in the other then there is no hand free to take out a cigarette. It takes a while to break a habit, so its okay to get some extra help in breaking this one.

What I do when I want to smoke after drinking is hold it without lighting it. I get nearly as much enjoyment from simply holding it, whether in my lips or my fingers. This only works until two or three people have asked you if you want a lighter, though.

    Good luck.

to be honest, I quit smoking cold turkey just because it got to the point where it grossed me out. I don't crave cigs ever, UNLESS IM DRINKIN! I tried to be good n smoke none or just a couple but then I basically said screw it. I allow myself to smoke when I drink mostly because I know once I'm out of college I won't be binge drinking three days a week so I wont have any desire to smoke anyway. (Because honestly, smoking while drunk makes not smoking a lot easier when your sober!!) but thats just me! you may not want to indulge urself. Also, because I quit smoking on a regular basis when I do smoke when I drink, I smoke A LOT less then I used to.
