Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Anne Hathaway – The Ultimate in Casual Chic-titude
January 9, 2009 Posted in Style
[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.
All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
I love Anne Hathaway. Not just because I loved the Princess Diaries. Not just because her movie Bride Wars seems like the perfect guilty pleasure. Not because her skin is so perfect you want to hate her for it/steal it. And not just because she seems so normal and goofy that you just want to be the LC to her Whitney…
My love for Anne is all about her style; the girl always looks so put together. Even when she’s traveling. Even when she’s wearing nothing extravagant. She doesn’t need it.
Our gal pal Anne always wears classic looks with a hint of trend, as opposed to letting the trends hang on her as if she were a store mannequin (cough cough: every other Hollywood starlet).
So that is why I chose this look for this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap. It’s cute, it’s classic (with a fun scarf and sunglasses to punch it up) and it’s something we would actually wear.
Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Anne Hathaway – The Ultimate in Casual Chic-titude
Scarf:
There is no shortage of fun scarves out there this season. Such an easy way to change up the basic black sweater/t-shirt-for-class combo.
Black Sweater or Blazer:
Leave it open for a more causal look and feel.
White Layering Tee:
This one is organic cotton! And unlike most things with the organic name it’s cheap too! (Yes, the tee pictured is gray, but that’s only because white doesn’t show up. Also, gray tees are totally staples for any wardrobe, so it could be a nice investment anyway!)
Trench:
A must-have for spring! Check out all the colors Gap has in it this year, although I do admit it’s a bit (and by bit I mean VERY, VERY) early to start looking at Spring clothes.
Jeans:
Yes, you read that right. $12.50. For a pair of jeans. Cheap. Cheap. CHEAP. Yay!
Bag:
Camel/brown bags are just as versatile as that stack of black ones you have in your closet. These ones are cute, cheap, and big enough to lug all your stuff around.
Sunglasses:
I always said bigger was better. Especially when it comes to bank accounts, pieces of cake and sunglasses. The retro style of these frames is cute and uber chic. Oh, and perfect for covering up that baggage under your eyes.
Boots:
Distressed and fabulous.

I've always like Anne's style too because she does keep it simple. She doesn't try to do too much but she always look well put together. By adding the scarf it completed the casual yet chic look.
