Shortly after taking the oath of office at his inauguration today, Barack Obama delivered his highly anticipated inauguration address. In the speech, Obama pointed out the problems with our country that he now must face as President, focusing mostly on the “badly weakened” economy. President Obama told the people of America:

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America – they will be met.”

As usual, Obama was inspiring and eloquent. I thought the speech really set the mood for the next 4 years to come, and the mood of “change” was definitely in the air. I’m excited to watch Obama fulfill his goals and bring about the change everyone is hoping for.

What about you? What did you think of Obama’s speech?

(And if you missed the speech, you can read the transcript here.)

Definitely shorter than I was expecting, but I did stand up and cheer when it was done. I feel really good about this choice for president.

It was great! But, I think Reverend Lowrey's speech was also very poignant and effective.

    Felt like a campaign speech.

And Lowery's speech ended with a racist comment-don't see how you could have liked that, lga.

    I really liked it.

I'm not an Obama fan, and honestly I didn't believe all his talk about change during the campaign – nor could I ever really figure out the specifics of his plans beyond that from listening to him. But this speech really convinced me that he meant it, and not in a small way, but in a really big, really ambitious way. This speech has me willing to believe that he's the kind of strong-willed person politicians should be. It doesn't mean that I agree with his policies any more than I ever have, but it does mean that it was a helluva speech – or maybe it was the way he delivered it. Either way, I hope he lives up to it.

ok, i agree that the poem was really really bad….

but obamas speech was awesome. i really liked the part where he talks about america extending its hand, but only if everyone can unclench their fist. i feel like that was a good metaphor… all in all it was good!

More bullshit. I was hoping for an al-Qaida attack to get rid of some those sheep.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

I loved the speech. It was somber but hopeful, and just what this country needs right now. I loved the line, "your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy." It's a sentiment I hope can spread across the globe.

To Jack: The comment at the end of the rev's speech was not meant to be racist at all. If you knew your history you would know that he only reversed the words of a song/saying that was written during the Jum Crow era. The song was "If you is white, you's alright,

    if you's brown, stick around,

but if you's black, hmm, hmm, brother,

get back, get back, get back." The rev simply reversed the lyrics to express the idea that blacks no longer have to "get back" I was deeply saddened that many took this as a racist or offensive comment when, it simply was not. I hope you can see what he meant and not be offended.
