Hey Obama, We Want a Do-Over, Too!

President Obama re-took his Presidential Oath of Office in the White House yesterday, after questions arose concerning the validity of his presidency when the U.S. Chief Justice accidentally mixed up the words when administering the oath during Tuesday’s ceremony. This got me thinking about some things I’ve screwed up and wish I could do over again, too.

1. My fashion & beauty choices of the 90′s - Shoulder pads? Leggings tucked into scrunched-up socks? Platform sneakers? I don’t know about you guys, but whenever I look at pictures from my childhood I can’t help but cringe at what I’m wearing and wonder how my parents let me walk out of the house looking that ridiculous. If could only go back now and tell my 11-year-old self to just put down the printed bike shorts

2. Trying to wax my own legs – My girlfriends and I were so excited to try out the at-home waxing kit we bought at the drugstore, but it didn’t work out how we’d planned. Oh how we wish we could take back that trip to CVS and the large welts on our legs from the too-hot wax.

3. The nights I spent eating ice-cream and watching Friends DVDs instead of studying - Inevitably, all of these nights were followed by panicked late-night cramming sessions the night before a huge exam, with me falling asleep at my desk sometime around 3 am. And I wonder why I struggled in my philosophy classes.

4. Any of my freshman-year hookups- We’ve all been there: it’s your first semester at college, you’ve met a whole bunch of new people, and every guy is just SO CUTE, right? Ugh. Looking back at it now I wish I had turned down that extra drink and would have never kissed that guy with the unibrow from the 3rd floor.

5. The time I decided to make cookies, and ended up eating all the dough - Oh what I would give to get rid of the extra junk in my trunk.

6. Trying to skateboard- Or rollerblade, ice skate, snowboard, or surf… I just ended up falling down, bruising myself AND my ego.

7. Fashion choices for nights out – Why, why, why wear stilettos and a tube top when going out to the bar? My natural clumsiness only multiplies when I decide to wear heels and when alcohol is thrown into the mix, it’s just a disaster waiting to happen.

8. My College Major – I guess I could re-do that one, but that would cost me an extra year in college (on second thought, that might not be so bad) and more time spent in dumb introductory classes.

9. Living with my best friend – Sounds like a good idea in theory, but living in a small space with someone you’re close with doesn’t always work out very well. Little fights turn into the biggest thing ever, and you end up not speaking for days on end. Or ever.

10. Facebook stalking my crush- I spent hours looking at his Facebook page, looking at every one of the pictures he was tagged in, memorizing his interests and thinking, “Omg, he likes Will Ferrell movies too? We’re perfect for each other!” But then I ran into him in the bookstore and he looked at me strangely when I asked him how his week in Mexico was and I realized that he never mentioned it in person and I totally looked like a creep.

What things do you guys wish you could do over?

HAH, I am in huge agreement on snowboarding/surfing. Coming from New Zealand they're supposed to be something we can all do … it's not. I swear.

    Or maybe it's just me.

I'd love to do over my student exchange! The stuff it's possible to get out of those things..

I would totally redo living with my best friend my freshmen year…. would have actually met new people and that friendship wouldn't have been so scarred… baaad choice.

Amen to the living with your friend. That was my freshman year mistake, we'd been best friends since we were five and within 3 months she moved out and we haven't spoken since. Word to the wise, do not live with friends.

I'm lucky on the last one. My crush doesn't have a facebook because he doesn't want to become addicted, which means that that situation won't arise.

Tell us what you're thinking...
