molly, most coffee shops are DEFINITELY making tons of money off their customers. and as far as making coffee at home, espressos may be a bit troublesome or costly to make but for the average person who came through our coffee shop and paid $2 for a black coffee could have easily brewed it at home for much much less.

But really, $5 for a coffee drink? I'll pass. Starbucks has become "Fourbucks"

If it makes you feel ANY better tho, coffee is not "overpriced". It may be an indulgence, but with milk at $4/gallon, espresso is expensive, syrups at $12-14/bottle, soy milk at $4, etc….It really does have a high production cost. Most coffee shops are actually making barely any profit.
