Yeah, I spent most of my spring break in the library studying for 3 tests, two homework assignments and more……ugh

Watchmen was deemed unfilmable in the past because the story is too complicated to translate to the screen for those who didn't read the hefty tome. So yeah…I'm not surprised that you hated it. I only liked it because it's like seeing the panels get much, much prettier. As a movie it didn't do much, because it's more like an expensive, shiny reading companion

I have a ton of homework to do over break, but our campus library is closed! Frick!

I haven't done any hwk yet and Spring Break ends today. (And I have a 10pg paper is due in English Lit too, do you have my TA? haha)

No offense, but it sounds like Watchmen went over your head.

I'm also spending my spring break in the library doing my senior thesis while all of my friends are heading to Las Vegas…. :(

I wouldn't say it went over her head. I think she's pointing out the fact that movies should be made so that the public can enjoy (and follow) the story, whether they have read the book or not.

On that note, I've read Watchmen but saw the movie with friends that did not and I agree – it was terribly confusing.

I really hate when professor give you tons of spring break homework but don't have the balls to admit it. They assign a 10 page paper, that we "don't have to even think about over break", but it's due the second day we get back.

Just curious since I work at a bank and might be able to help ya avoid fees

Darcy, I know what you mean. It is like a Watchmen companion piece rather than a stand-alone movie. They had to cut so much, and some of the stuff they sort of forgot they didn't explain (Bubastis? yeah, no reason to have the squid monster, no reason to have the eugenic lynx). The movie also had such a different emotive tone than the book, too, but I did enjoy the hell out of it. Maybe that's just because I adore Rorschach and thought his actor was amazing(ly sexy)? And I love the ass-kicking. The book is a heavy, depressing kind of read, and the movie kinda says, 'yeah, but, lookit how awesome they kick ass!!!' which was fun :) Also, the fact that so many shots and so much dialogue was direct from the comic made me tingle with excitement – way cool :D

I loved Watchmen, but I can't believe My Crappy Romance had that horrible song at the end, especially after the great music throughout the rest of the movie. You just can't start a movie with Bob Dylan and end it with MCR

I agree, the book wasn't translated that well and the movie can be difficult to understand if you haven't read it. i was a fan of the novel before i knew about the movie and i was so excited when i found out it was being made. i wasn't too disappointed with the result, i just wish the director hadn't changed quite as much of the story line.

I thought that they did a really good job translating it into film. I mean as far as a book that complicated goes. I mean it pretty much follows the book absolutely 100% and quotes the book quite often. but I also think that if you hadn't read the book you were anticipating a totally different sort of movie and then were let down with a not super hero but masked vigilate movie. which is absolutely different (who knew).

Tell us what you're thinking...
