Fit Finds: Granola, Just the Way YOU Like It
April 8, 2009 11:00 am Posted in Body Abby - Syracuse University g+ page
Granola is a tricky little bugger. Sure, it seems like the healthiest choice to pick at the dining hall in comparison to the other less-than-appealing options, but the truth is that granola can pack a ton of fat and calories if you’re not careful. Like, you’re-better-off-eating-the-Lucky-Charms kinda calories. Luckily, a new company (and my new obsession) has provided a solution: customized granola mixes.
Yup, that’s right! At mixmygranola.com, you choose every single thing that goes into your very own special mix.
How does it work? There are four easy steps:
First, you pick your base (options are organic granola, french vanilla granola, organic muesli and low fat granola), and then you can add in dried fruits (I chose dried mangos, bananas and raspberries…yum!) and nuts (omega-3 rich flax seeds for me). To top it off, if you want to add some treats to the mix, pick from “extras” such as gummy bears, yogurt covered pretzels and chocolate chips.
And that’s all! Just click to order and within a few days, you’ll have a (large) container of ready-to-go granola. Mine came within two days after I placed the order and I must say, it is delicious. It even has the exact nutritionals for my personalized mix pasted right on the side so I know exactly what I’m eating, unlike when I pour a fatty bowl of the stuff in the caf. I just measure the stuff into single serving plastic baggies and grab and go on my way to class. Easy, healthy, delicious.
OMG I’m so in love. And you can start your very own love affair with mixmygranola. CollegeCandy linked up with the men behind the blend and are giving a $25 gift certificate to a very lucky granola-lovin’ CollegeCandy reader. Just tell us, in the comments below, what your ideal granola combo would be and we’ll pick a winner. You have until 5pm on Tuesday, April 14th to get your entry in. We’ll announce the winner on Wednesday, April 15th.
Yay granola!

My perfect granola would be a base of a blend of whole grain oats, oat bran, whole grain rice crisp, cane sugar, almonds, and ground flax seeds. There will be a hint of vanilla and cinnamon with dried pieces of apple, blackberry, and pomegranate.

What?!?! This is such a great idea!
I work for the forest service and in the summer i always pack some granola or trail mix to snack on when im on the mountain and they are never just right but making my own sounds like the most perfect idea =)
My perfect mix:
Granola BaseFrench Vanilla Granola (Im a huge vanilla fan just call me super sweet)
Fruits: I consume fruit everyday it's what i live off of mostly.
Cranberries, bananas chips (i eat these like candy), strawberries, cherries, apples… yummmm
plus the new Goji berries (something new I love it and am never afraid to try something new!)
Im a nutty person so why not add some of those!
Pecans, macadamia nuts (i have never seen these in a mix how exciting!), almonds (fave) and sunflower seeds (so excited these are not shelled lol)
Now the icing on the cake so to say:
yogurt pretz, coco shreds (awesome), coffeeeeeeee (sweet!), peanut butter bites (anything peaut butter count me in), then of course i had to add in the random gummy bear/jelly bean mix just to throw in some personality!
I love this the most because it's the perfect mix between healthy fun and original. Why didn't I think of this
Thanks!!!!

My ideal granola would be the french vanilla, no fruit (lol), the roasted cashews and organic peanuts with mini yougart pretzels, gummy bears, peanut butter bites and peanut M&M's. Maybe not the healthiest, but definitely delicious.

I love this granola site-perfect for athletes and trainers as well.
MY fav:
Organic granola
with:
Rasberries
Cranberries
Blueberries
Blackberries
with:
Almonds, roasted
Chia seeds
A perfect morning post-workout to munch on with or without some yogurt ( Kefir ) or low-fat milk even, for an extra boost and protien replinish for the workday ahead. This feels me up so I can do and go all day, feeling great. I love to munch on this in the morning with my coffee by my side on the porch after my workout and watch the sun rise and hear the birds start to sing-what a great start to a day.
For an 'after a night out', back at the house with the group snack, or for a 'poker night in' essential, I also use:
Organic Granola
with:
Cherries
Almonds, roasted
Pistachios
Mini Yogurt Pretzels
Wasabi Peas ( great with the cherries, for some reason!! )
Peanut M&Ms
Chocolate, nuts, and granola mixed and some cherries to boot. Great stuff, everyone digs in.
