The CC Weekly Weigh In: Prom Memories

prom-king-and-queen025We spend our whole lives imagining the big high school prom. What will we wear? Who will we take? Will there be some sort of breakout choreographed dance a la every high school movie ever made?

And then it’s over and, with the aid of the 4,256 posed pictures we take in someone’s backyard, we remember it forever.

For some, it’s a fantastic and memorable affair. For others, it’s a waste of 6 hours and $700 that we’ll never get back. But either way, everyone has some pretty vivid memories of that milestone night. Being that it’s prom season, we decided to ask the CollegeCandy writers to share their favorite prom memories.

No joke – some of these will make you LOL. For real.
Share your faves in the comments section below, then send us your prom pics!

Laura – St. John’s: My favorite prom memory was going out to Denny’s and having a sleepover with all my friends afterwards… it was a great way to keep the party going after the dance was over and enjoy one of our last high school events together!

Charlsie – Hollins: The one memory that sticks out from prom is the overwhelming feeling of stupidity for spending so much on my hair, make-up, nails, and dress.

Lauren – University of Michigan: My date left me because I decided to try a Mike’s Hard Lemonade at the after-party. Then, after passing out, I opened my eyes to witness my friend going down on her date.

Mazuba – Westchester Community College: The prom memory that stands out is my dad not letting me go out clubbing after my prom. So I attended the prom after that and partied hard to make up.

Thu – USC: Six or seven of my friends and I were all grinding on each other in a line, and I’m pretty sure we were all sober. Good times.

Elise – Stanford: I’m a big fan of those sticky silicone backless bras (“chicken cutlets”) for prom dresses…but apparently I’m the only one.  My freshman year at Prom I went to the bathroom and found about 8 pairs of sweaty, used sticky bras on the counter of the bathroom.  Either people were too sweaty to keep the stick or wanted to get a little friskier on the dance floor…Needless to say, I was a tad horrified.

Kayla – California State University, Sacramento: My boyfriend at the time had bought me a coffee after dinner (which makes me ridiculously hyper and active) and I ended up spilling it all over his white tux (which made him look like Colonel Sanders, so I didn’t care if it got ruined).

Elizabeth – Berkeley: At my senior prom, my date snuck out of the after-party to see his ex (?) girlfriend at the time.  He left with my camera, my keys, and a handle of alcohol that I bought for us.  The best part?  3 years later we reconnected and we have been dating since January.  Don’t worry, I haven’t even gotten close to letting him live it down.

Sarabeth – University of Texas
: My prom ended in me going home early to eat ice cream in my dress because my ex showed up making out with his pregnant girlfriend…and I showed up with the gay guy.

Brithny – Duke: Getting asked to prom by the hottest Korean in our school. Actually, hottest guy in our school. And satisfying my senior-year Korean fetish.

Carly – Grinnell: Ahhhh, prom. When I was a senior, my boyfriend of two years dumped me over IM and then started going out with my best friend. I rebelled by sneaking into prom and dancing with tons of guys that were way better dancers than he ever was.

Sara C- Fordham: I saw two people having sex, standing up, on the dance floor at my senior prom. Word of caution to the ladies of the class of ’09: if you’re going to do that, don’t wear a mini dress so everyone can see, okay?

Erica – Kent State: I went with my BF of 4 years (at the time) to his senior prom.  The next year we were still together & I asked him to take me to mine, but he refused.  He had already graduated & thought he was “too” old (& cool) to take me.   I was the only one of my friends without a date, and the only one with a steady boyfriend. ..FML, or what?

Cristina – Michigan State: My senior prom date “got mono,” didn’t want to dance the entire night, then drank an entire fifth of Jack Daniels at the after party, didn’t talk to me, and left without saying goodbye.  I wish I was kidding.  I love my life.

K – GWU: Sophomore year, I got those stick-on boobs you can buy at the beauty supply to fill out my gown. They started falling off an hour into it, and my best friend thought to attach them with Band-aids in the bathroom, we used about 20 for one boob, only to realize, there were no more Band-aids.

Kim – University of Delaware: It was junior year and the long awaited Junior Prom was right around the corner. My best BEST guy friend, who I had always been in love with, decided to ask me to the magical event. Filled with bliss and love for him (and the help of my first game of spin the bottle) we finally kissed and admitted our love to each other. However, from that day forth, he stopped talking to me. It was two weeks before my dream day when he decided he found a different date. In full force mourning, I asked my guy friend to come with me instead. I started to gain excitement once again until one week before prom (7 DAYS) my date got in academic trouble and couldn’t go. I had to take a freshman to my Junior Prom. If that wasn’t enough, some other girl was wearing MY dress (that bitch) and my FIRST date was making out with his new date inches away from me. I spent the night in the bathroom crying and trying to adhere my dress to me with a roll of two-sided tape.

My senior year I was just getting over some hard emotional times and didn't really have any desire to go to Prom. I bought a dress just in case and eventually decided to go but I didn't want to bring a date (it just would have been too complicated) but my friends were not happy about that. They thought I would just be alone and sulking the whole time and "ruin" their Prom with their boyfriends. So I asked a guy friends last minute.

Worst decision. All he did was sit at the table and ask me about one of my friends he had a huge crush on all night. He wouldn't dance. Complained about everything. He just went to the bathroom and said he was sick. Then left right away after it was over. If I had to do it all over I just would've gone with my first instinct and skipped it.

My senior date (who I totally wasn't into) asked if I wanted to get our pictures taken professionally at the dance. I agreed. He made me pay, and pocketed the change.

Senior year I asked a friend of mine who i had a crush on to go with me. We hit it off really well and we've been dating since. that was about 2 years ago.

From early on my best friend and I agreed that even if we both had boyfriends when we were seniors we would still take each other to our proms (we lived in sperate states).

At my prom we went along w/ our group of friends (no one brought dates) and we had a bunch of fun. The after party was the best though. We all go together and got super high and had a REALLY fun night.

At her prom we went along w/ her boyfriend and our other good friend and had another amazing time. Prom treated me pretty well overall. :)

I was having a hard time trying to find a date to my senior prom so i let a friend of mine set me up on a blind date.. he was a nice guy and all but my prom sucked. I had an awesome dress and my hair was perfect (but my night not so much) the limo ride was weird we couldn't find a 3rd couple so my friends mom and dad road with us.. i lost my camera so i have 7 pics to remember the night with. and some of my friends got in a big fight before prom so the after party got canceled. and my date didn't dance.

My Prom sucked-ass. I was chubby and no one would dance with me. All of my friends were losers with no boyfriends, to top it off I could never in a million years get a date and my best friend didn't go because she had chosen to go to germany the year before instead of wasting money on a redneck prom dance. I wish I had done the same, finally I can admit it was the biggest waste of time and money, I should have stayed home instead of having my little school girl dreams get dashed to pieces, not only that but i thought it was so boring. Proms are not like in the movies, the prince never comes to save you. According to the other posts he makes out with your best friend instead.

I've been to five proms, and all but the last one were great. :) My favorite one was my then-boyfriend's senior prom. The two of us danced for the entire night. Then, my whole group of friends and I spent the weekend after prom at the beach. We had a lot of laughs, played a lot of video games, and surprisingly, were sober the entire trip. Good times. :)

Prom at a Christian school? It's… not. There was no dancing, which I'm told is the main deal of prom. I spent way too much money on it, food was bad, it was boring, and my friend was complaining the whole time. Overall it was good, not really a forever memory but I definitely don't regret going.

Both my Junior and Senior proms were awesome; I attended the proms of a different high school because it was the one where all my friends (and my boyfriend) went. Both years we had a great night out. Senior year my parents let me host the after party, which basically just consisted of us crashing on the floor and then they made us breakfast in the morning :) I get to try it again this year for do-over Junior (in college) Prom!

I went to prom alone because my boyfriend at the time got arrested a week before prom.

After prom, my friends and I were in the hot tub, my date decided it would be a good idea to dunk my head under water, which was still fully covered in bobby pins/hairspray. I emerged looking like a drowned rat, and was so mad i hit him in the face, sadly all the blood had rushed to his face, and i hit him hard enough to break his nose. I graduated with 2000 people and to this day I still meet people I graduated with that know who I am because I'm the girl who broke her prom date's nose.

I went to a catholic school and went with one of the priests. I am a guy, and I was shocked when he bought me the prettiest dress. It was great

My senior prom is tonight actually- I'm going with my boyfriend (I loves him ;) ), have an awesome dress, and I feel great! We'll see how it turns out though- he doesn't like to dance but that doesn't bother me so much.

    Junior prom was… Interesting.

I went with a guy I wasn't even remotely interested in, he paid for my $60 ticket. We started to dance, everyone was grinding so I followed the crowd; he got a boner so I stopped dancing and avoided him the rest of the night!

Then he dropped me off at home and we never mentioned it again.

I still feel bad for costing him that $60, but we're still friends anyway ;)
