I say see it. I love Harry Potter and hate Star Wars. I did not want to see Star Trek but I did and I actually really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it.

I guess I understand, but this is one of the few articles on collegecandy that bugged me a bit.

Go see it. If you enjoy it, so what? Goodness. You don't have to be labeled as a "Trekkie" just because you liked a movie, and if you were a Trekkie, again, so what?

I think the thing that bothers me most is that you "obviously" liked Twilight.

Ick.

I'm a fullblown nerd (if I do say so myself) and find Twilight disgusting.

At any rate, nicely written, and enjoy the movie.

I am by no means a star trek fan, but this movie was amazing!!!! You have to go see it, it was interesting and exciting from beginning to end!!!!

I was skeptical of Star Trek until I actually started watching Star Trek Voyager and The Next Generation. It's a pretty good series if you can get past the prejudice against it. That said, even as a pre-existing fan, the movie was AWESOME. It helps if you're familiar with the series but it's definitely not necessary. Anyone can enjoy the witty dialogue, crazy action, and eye candy leading men. Go see it, then judge.

Ahem. But yeah, it was a good movie. Did you avoid seeing the Spiderman or Batman movies because you were afraid of being labeled a comic book nerd? How about the Lord or the Rings trilogy? Taking dorky things fans tend to obsess over and making them into awesome movies for the mainstream is not a new phenomenon.

If you can admit to liking Twilight, then you might as well go see Star Trek; you've already lost your street cred. Besides, space is fun!
