Chris Brown = Fail

We haven’t heard much from Chris Brown since “the incident” before the Grammy’s, but if this new home video is anything, it’s his (shady) attempt to get back into our hearts and minds. Because he’s got a new album dropping. And a new single coming out this summer! And because he likes to bowl and is not a “monster.”

Fail.

Maybe it’s too little too late for me, or maybe it’s years of shunning the guys who ditched my girlfriends working against him, but I’m so not down with Chris Brown. (I am, however, totally down with rhyming.)  I also will not be down with buying his album, downloading his single, or requesting his songs on the radio. Mostly because I haven’t done that since I was in middle school and just had to hear the Titanic song.  Will I be able to avoid him completely?  No, of course not.  Just like you can’t avoid seeing that douchebag that screwed over your bestie freshman year strutting around campus.

Is Rihanna my bestie? No, most definitely not (but that would be pretty sweet, you gotta admit), but she’s a woman and I’m a woman, so there’s a connection there.  Considering what happened, I’d say that I’m gonna take her side even though I’ve never met her (and probably never will).

Nevertheless, this is a tricky topic.  Should we forgive Chris Brown and keep enjoying his music (despite that really lame video), or should his actions have an effect on his life and career foreeeeverrrr (sorry, couldn’t resist)?

What do you think?

I'm with the fail. I can't/won't get over what he did to Rihanna. No CB for me (I apparently also like the rhyming, ha!).

Roberto- i COMPLETELY disagree about the music speaking more than actions thing. Music, at least in the mainstream, pop industry, is all about appealing to the masses, and Chris Brown certainly isn't the first person to play up or down certain parts of himself in his music… so what we finally get is a filtered version of a person. The fact is that he beat Rihanna, which, at least in my opinion, says a lot more about what type of person he is than the type of music he produces.

Side note: I used to love Chris Brown, but it really irritates me that he says his "real fans" in his video… so what?? You're supposed to get away with beating up a woman? When the majority of your fan base is made up of females?? You really think that all those fans are going to stick by you? Ridiculous.

The way I see it is that I like his music so I will download his new album. I do not respect him for what he did to Rihanna. But he is young and he made a mistake and as long as he doesn’t do it again, I will still listen to his music. He does, however, need to get more out there and donate money to organizations to help battered women.

People need to get OVER this! I mean so what if he brutally beat a woman who couldn’t really defend herself against him. It wasn’t his fault. AND he apologized, what more do you people want? Some sort of repercussion for beating a woman to the point she needed to be hospitalized. He’s sorry he’s so sorry he’s probably wrote a SONG about it. You know who didn’t write a song about how sorry he was? Manson. It’s not as if violence against women particularly women of color is a huge issue. And so what if 1 in 3 teenagers will experience dating violence? The important thing is that young people get the message: that dating violence and abuse is totally acceptable so long as you pretend to feel bad.

Hint: Violently abusing another human being doesn’t make you a monster, but it does make you pathetic, weak, and in desperate need of help.

I really must disagree with you. It was completely his fault. I understand feelings like anger and frustration come up. He is a flawed person, who was raised by a flawed race: the human race. I understand people make bad decisions based on emotion.

BUT, we all have complete control over our actions in regard to our feelings. I feel anger. I know how it makes you feel. I also know it is my responsibility to control my actions. He acted out in a violent manner, and that was his responsibility. I agree we do not have to continue bashing him for what he did. He paid the price for what he did. He apologized. It is over. If some choose to not listen to his music anymore as a result, that is their discretion. But saying it was not his fault is wrong and irresponsible to say.

We all must learn to take responsibility for our actions, and we must be held accountable for the consequences of those actions, positive or negative.

how was it "not his fault"? someone else "made" him do it? he did the action, so it was his fault…and i raise the question…who or what WOULD be a monster? manson?

Chris Brown's career is over. His career was built on having a squeaky clean image. That was part of his appeal to a lot of people. Unless he wants to ditch his previous music and go into rap, I don't see how beating down his GF is really going to translate into the type of success that he had before. He will still make his music, but he will just be an afterthought and not the "it" guy. Then after a while, he will just totally be gone. What scum.

I think Chris Brown the person & Chris Brown the artist are two separate people. If I like his new music, I’ll download it. I still like some of his older songs, I’m not going to stop listening to them just because of what happened.

I understand that people feel like they need to “punish” artists/celebrities when they do something stupid/wrong/illegal/etc, but , I feel like what they do in their personal lives (no matter how stupid/wrong I, personally, think it is) doesn’t ever take away from their talent.

Take Michael Jackson, for example. I LOVE & probably always will love Michael’s music. He’s ridiculously talented.
& while I’m not comparing Chris Brown’s talent to that of Michael Jackson .. the boy is talented & long story short–my personal take on situations like this is to just let the music speak for itself.

People will eventually forgive CB as they do most celebrities .And he has millions of screaming fans who will continue to buy his music.Eventually he will get new endorsements and get invited to events and blah blah.

never liked him before, don’t like him now. I think his label should have dropped him because now THEY are going to take a hit. (wow , no pun intended, really.) Regardless of whether he makes good music or not he is now bad for business. And I don’t think he will have a big enough following anymore. A persons soul and character comes out in their music (and I am talking about true music, not mainstreamed music) His music is not sincere. It is generated for the masses, and therefor does not speak louder than his actions.

Strong emotions + weak mind = Dangerous combination

And that's what happened when he attacked Rihanna he'll suffer the consequences for months. His album will tank. All of his music stinks anyways. He is a distraction to all the teen boppers who don't know that his music is truly fake. If people want real good killer music. They shud support Usher again. Usher's new album "Monster" will be a killer.
