Saturday Read: Sloppy Firsts (and others) by Megan McCafferty

Curling up on a lounge chair with a cold drink, some hot rays and a good book is practically my definition of a perfect summer day. And in the summertime, a good book means brainless and entertaining.
Enter chick lit.
My entire summer ’08 was filled with one thing and one thing only: the chick lit series by Megan McCafferty. It starts with Sloppy Firsts, a book chronicling the life of Jessica Darling, a high school student in a boring town in New Jersey. The books that come next (appropriately named Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds, etc…) follow Jessica as she graduates, moves on and lives her life. Doesn’t sound like much, but I promise just one day of reading will suck you in.
Jessica Darling is the most lovable character I have ever met in a book. She’s genuine and real, not to mention HILARIOUS. When reading these books, I constantly found myself laughing out loud. And the situations Jessica finds herself in are not only laughable, but also so real and true. It was so easy to relate to these books, even if I’m far past my high school days. Everything just feels so personal, like you’re living life right there with Jessica.
McCafferty’s books made me laugh, cry, smile and dream. They are entertaining and also some of the most inspiring chick-lit books I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot…). If you’re looking for a light-hearted, yet inspiring read for those hot summer days, then start with Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty. Just make sure to slather on that sunscreen – you’re gonna be out there for awhile.

Definitely read this series. I have Perfect Fifths here but I haven't started it. Jessica Darling is a good character, but I love Marcus Flutie more than words can say!

These are the best books!
I've read them each as they came out. The ending to the series is so realistic and amazing that I wrote a letter to the author thanking her for such an incredible ending.
