I'm 48 yo that burned constantly for years, working out in the sun. My skin doesn't look like it has though, and I get a check up yearly.
I always used Aloe Vera for relief. Works great but you have to get it WITHOUT any alcohol. Alcohol dries up your skin and makes it peel. It also burns going on.
Aloe without alcohol will not sting. Cold , but no sting.
I put it on thick at night and go to bed.
In the morning, take a shower and you will feel the aloe wash off.
Good to go after-wards.
My 2 cents.

I absolutely do not understand tanning. It's bad for your skin, but there's more to it than that. I work at a grocery store and see all kinds of people, but more than any other type are middle-age women who've spent hundreds too many hours roasting in the sun and have leathery, disgusting looking orangey skin.

Think about it, girls. Keep it up and THIS WILL BE YOU SOMEDAY. Sun will not make your skin look pretty, only more mottled and wrinkly. I find light, soft looking skin more attractive anyway and I suspect I'm not the only one.

Asian people understand this well. While some are too afraid of the sun - a little exposure is actually good for your skin, and health in general - there's a good reason why Japanese women tend to stay so youthful looking well into their late thirties and forties. They take good care of their skin.

Not that this isn't some sort of pseudo-racist rant. If your skin is naturally dark, that's great! What bothers me is the unhealthy activity of tanning, since it hurts your skin and doesn't make you any better looking. Remember, you only get one set of skin, so protect it. If you don't want your skin to look like cowhide by age forty, put on some sunblock or stay indoors.

Sam I understand your pain, while laying in the sun I wiped off the excess sunblock on my leg, now I have a hand print streak down my leg surrounded by angry red which is going away now. But still I'll be wearing pants to work for a while. Also on saturday I was wearing a big chunky necklace out in the sun, now I also have a white chain going around my neck instead of my whole chest being beet red. Oh summer you suck.

Ugh, this is me right now. Last month I was out all day for a charity walk and wore a crew neck shirt.. so I got burned from that shirt up; awkward burn that made me look like my neck was dirty when it tanned. Now I got burned again yesterday (despite wearing spf 70 sunblock) and now I have sunburn around my halter top with a spot missing where I had my purse on my shoulder. Oh how I love summer.
