Let’s Lay MJ To Rest…Seriously
July 6, 2009 Posted in Buzz

I didn’t want to be the bad guy here, but I guess I’ll step up to the plate.
I’m talking about the soon-to-be-infamous Michael Jackson Memorial Service/Concert. A memorial service to remember a man who died tragically before his time, people…not a kick-ass concert. Something that many people, mostly those who spent an entire day online (on Independence Day, no less) vying for tickets, seem to have forgotten.
I have so many problems with this spectacle. For one, does anyone else think it’s about time we moved on from Michael Jackson’s death to, say…anything else in the news? There are way more important things going on (stock market plunging…again? Secret troop movements? Hello?). Don’t get me wrong – I rock out to MJ like you would not believe (not music videos, though…his face freaks me out), but I’m not about to buy a plane ticket and camp out at the Staples Center (yeah right – more like three miles from the Staples Center, due to the hundreds of thousands of crazy people who are/will be there) for his memorial service/random celebrity concert.
For two, the so-called fans are making the death and subsequent memorial service of a pop artist into a monster. I have so many questions to ask those people crowding the streets in Los Angeles. Such as, why are you wasting money to camp out in front of a stadium? Even if you do have a ticket, are you really going in order to remember Michael Jackson and his music, or just to see a sweet concert? I also have to question the sanity of some people when I hear that there is a ticket on eBay listed for $15,000. 15 grand? To go to an overblown and over-hyped funeral? And what about these ticket-giveaways? Maybe it’s just me, but there seems to be something wrong when tickets to a memorial service come packaged in an email entitled, “congratulations, you won!”
For me, this is all very ridiculous. My best memories of MJ’s music are dancing with friends and singing in my car at the top of my lungs. I don’t need some overblown concert to keep Michael Jackson’s music alive and I am disgusted by the people who are using his death as a chance for personal gain.

The memorial concert is a nice concept, but the craze has become ridiculous. And I'm tired of turning on CNN at night only to see three straight hours about his death. It's also sad that his children have been thrust into the spotlight like this – let them grieve in peace!

You would say that… People who keep saying such things make me upset. It isn't like he was vying for sainthood now was he? The man had some serious childhood/daddy issues. That stuff messes you up!!

Thank You, thank you, THANK YOU, I am SOOO sick of hearing about MJ! I get really pissed off when I am trying to read actual news and have to scroll through pages and pages of this crap. Sure, it's sad he died, but lay the guy to rest.

I just think that it's all getting kind of ridiculous. I mean, I know that a great music icon died, but hello! Life is for the alive.
Another thought: so many people are sooooo upset by his death, but how many of those same people attacked him while he was still alive? How many of those people made fun of him and tried their hardest to hurt him? MJ was exploited throughout his entire life, and now our society won't let him rest in peace.
Oh, and there were those pesky pedophile charges. How soon we all forget….

I was watching a bit of the service when it first came on, and I absolutely did NOT expect his casket to be present. Even moreso, I didn't expect them to actually show it on tv. To me, that's just disrespectful, like how you don't take pictures at a funeral or a viewing. It made me sick to my stomach to see those hundreds of camera flashes as the pallbearers brought the casket in.
Yes, he was a major pop icon who left an incredible legacy, but why, oh why, can't they just give him a private, respectful funeral instead of sticking his remains in the middle of a 3-ring circus??
