Thank God I’m A Woman
July 18, 2009 Posted in Reality
Being a woman ain’t easy. Between monthly periods and mood swings, adapting to high heels, and – umm – we’re the ones who have to go through childbirth, there are definitely some difficult things that we have to endure. Nonetheless, there are so many other, bigger and better reasons that I’m still saying, “TGIAW!”
We don’t have to worry about our genitalia getting chopped off.
You’re probably saying whaaaa? But yeah, this actually can, and does, happen. Poor Stuart Keen is a victim, as his carpenter career left him hanging with… well…actually it didn’t quite leave anything hanging. He accidentally sawed off his own package, which he apparently thought was a cabinet leg.
No one has to know how hot we think our prof (or any guy, for that matter) is.
Fortunately for us ladies, we can be aroused and horny as ever, without the world (parents/grandparents/children, especially) seeing.
Nightlife is cheaper.
Cover charge for bars and clubs is often cheaper or even free just because we’re females, which no one can deny is freakin’ awesome. And how often do girls buy drinks for guys? I mean, yes it does happen, but usually it’s the other way around. So saving money on a night out is definitely a huge plus.
We can show emotion without having to think twice.
We can hug and squeeze our girlfriends as much as we want without any hesitation. Guys, on the other hand, are wary of such things. They settle for a pat on the back, a handshake, a high five. And sometimes we all just need a good hug.
We don’t have to bring sharp objects toward our face/neck.
The last thing I wanna have to worry about in the morning is getting a razor near my eyes/key arteries.
We don’t have to look the same every day.
We get to accessorize our outfits, put on different colors and shades of makeup, change up our hairstyle…the list goes on. Guys don’t have that many choices when it comes to changing up their look (or covering monster zits). That’s just gotta get boring.
Looks like I’ll deal with the blisters from my platforms, take the Midol for those cramps, and proudly say, I’m glad to be a girl!
What do you love most about being a woman?
Tell us what you're thinking...

yeah, this doesn't make me feel much better after just finding out that the past 8 years of busting my ass trying to tone my body has been completely useless thanks to my birth control. I had no idea that BC can make it impossible for some girls to tone their muscles. And what's worse, when I would run 6 miles 5 days a week and see absolutely no results, people would tell me I wasn't trying hard enough and I needed to do more, longer, if I wanted to see results. FML I wish I was a guy.

Yeah, I just found that out too! Bummer. I've only been on it since December, but now it makes sense that all my winter rugby conditioning didn't show too much at the time. But I'm looking pretty toned this summer despite the BC; I strength train 3 times a week (either with free weights or going to CoreYoga class, my favorite exercise ever), and I interval walk on most days. I think the key is not to overdo it, and find a schedule that works for you. I definitely wasn't toned back when all I did was run long distances. I hope you find something that works for you, good luck!!

Uh-oh! I thought this list was supposed to be all the things we LIKE about being girl. It's difficult, but as feminist as I am, I love stereotypical girly things. I love feather boas, glitter, pink, sparkles…I love it all!

Rose…same here. Despite all the inequality I wouldn't trade it to have a peen…It makes you stronger!

I so don't want to know why.

Kristina, My boyfriends dad is a carpenter and he's told us many horror stories about men loosing there penises to table saws. It's really easy to loose control of the blade and it can come back at you, get twisted up in your pants and, well, cut off your pecker. So it probably wasn't that he thought it was a cabinet leg, that was probably a joke.

Not looking the same every day is not a plus.
The table saw cut off the package is overblown. Rarely happens. And when it does, it only happens to the most stupid of all people. I mean seriously… what man with a working mind would even put a saw near there?

you dont have to put as much effort towards sex. because most guys assume that they have to do the work.
[i will say that i do put forth the effort for the boyfriend. hahaha and he's a luck boy

Is this a feminist website?
Because this article seems to me to be decidedly anti-feminist. It's a more eloquent version of "LOL. guyz hav to buy us drinks b/cuz we dont hav dicks. TEEHEE" and "OMG guyz are just sooooooo stone cold. plus they totes wear the same clothes everyday. guh. I'm sooooo stoked I can wear pretty clothes to make myself more appealing to men and, like, keep my strong, feminist attitude, you know?"
How depressing. I think I'm throwing my lot in with the misogynists.
Jack says:

And Jaimeee. You are not a feminist.
Just so you know.
Unless it's possible to be a feminist while espousing beliefs about male-dominated sexuality that are, by definition, male-chauvinist.

Neither are you.

The genitalia chopping is not limited to table saws. Somebody cut off over 50% of the surface of my penis when I was an infant. People mutilate about 20% of the world's males. Male or female, I would be happy to live in a place that does not mutilate either.
As for the fashion, men's fashion is so horridly uniform. Options are hard to come by.
A female friend told me that work clothing can be a pain in the butt though. At least work attire is easy for men.

This article really did nothing to make me think that being a woman is any better than being a man. The arguments are superficial. Being a woman in our world today pretty much sucks – like Margaret said, some women face genital mutiliation, many of us experience the glass ceiling, and there is still a general cookie-cut role of "womanness" that we are expected to embrace. Granted, it is a lot less rigid than the image our mothers and their mothers were supposed to fill, but it still exists.

I agree with this but frankly I'm too much of a sly fox to buy women lots of drinks at bars or give them money just because they have different equipment down stairs.
I do not mind showing generosity I just hate it when certain expectations are heaped upon the man to be the "bread winner" or "pay for everything" on a date. Even some actual feminists expect this treatment.
Personally I think it should be 50/50. Maybe each person on a date pays for their own meal and each person pays for their own movie ticket. Or one agrees to pay for the movies and the other agrees to provide drinks and food.
America society is too superficial. It's not so much about "what" you do on a date but how you feel about the person you are with.
You want someone that can make you happy all the time, not a person that makes you happy only when he has money & stuff.
If you are dating a guy for his profit margin, status, or because he showers you with gifts you are a "prostitute". You may not be called one or have to deal with the social stigmata of being a whore but you're playing the exact same game only with less honesty.
I know that's only touching on one aspect of your topic but I don't think you should "revel" in the fact females get unfair special treatment. It is sexist and I expect better of women.
PS: If you wrote this as satire I apologize if the "Maddox-esque" humor flew over my head, heh.

You did not talk about the biggest advantage of being a woman, perhaps because you do not know about it: being able to have multiple orgasms and literally a never ending one while us, men, can only have one in 15 minutes, and 3 per day. It's really unfair, but as much pleasant to watch a woman having her minutes and let us finish the job quickly in a single explosion of wilderness (a lot more than her), anyway. Women has a lot more to be proud of, but this is just enough.

I agree with broken. one of my girlfriends thinks that she can just walk up to a guy at a bar and tell him to buy us some drinks, then walk away. guys buy drinks for girls who they want to sleep with. it's pretty messed up.
But I still dunno if it should be 50/50, thats hardcore. I think girls like being treated nicely, and being taken out to dinner/taken care of is part of that.
and yes to the orgasm girl-vantage. yes yes yes yes yes.

How does a guy saw off his package without even noticing?
brobot says:

ok now to address this article's flaws:
1) most guys don't worry about it, though most in America have had their foreskin chopped off at birth. But as far as the whole dick being torn off, we don't worry about that really.
2) i'm proud of my boner, and if i just happen to notice a sexy woman and immediately sport wood (i go from zero to stiff within seconds) and she happens to notice and become offended, that's her problem
3) as long as you're having sex with the dude who bought you the drinks, you're both satisfied (unless you both suck at sex of course). but then if you go and ignore the guy who bought you drinks, he's gonna follow your ass around all night, haha.
4) haha like you're the only sex capable of showing emotion. Really, this is one of those personal barriers a person allows themself to be trapped in. I don't care how some dude was raised, he's gotta learn to start showing emotion, which a lot of guys do.
5) haha have you never used a razor before? lmao goddamn
6) sort of agree, but i go to a tailor to make my own funky-looking shirts and shorts and pants and whatnot. and really, men should wear makeup if they really want
