Ugh. Not only is everything on this list a waste of money, but they're also extremely useless, with the exception of the webcam… but at that price, it might as well be.

The solar bag has a useful function, but the rest of this list is full of expensive crap that no one needs.
Also, pro tip: don't be an asshole and point your "video camera pen" at the professor the entire lecture, it's a lot easier and you'll learn more if you just take some damn notes.

I agree with the other comments.
Must we remind you that we are COLLEGE students. Translation: we are not made of money. Get a new list please and this time incorporate products under $50. Not just one or two.

I think by "products" you meant "gadgets" and by "must own" you meant "could buy for roughly 34 seconds of novelty-factor entertainment if you have an overabundance of money lying around". Also most cellphones have a voice recording function which can be used to the effect of the James Bond pen.

I'd rather use my free, Fisherprice child toy to record lectures. It works just as well and is free. Perhaps the addition on how to get these for less than $100 dollars? While I suppose they are useful to some extent, the prices are awful for the average college student. I guess that's why they are gifts you want–you're not buying them.
1) Find several students in the class to split the price with you on a video recorder so that you all have it for less the price, or use a webcam while taking notes on your laptop if you all ready have one (some come built in now).
2) That one, admittedly, is awesome and not too expensive. It's about the same price or cheaper as a desk fan. I hope it works well.
3) Worth it if you live far away. Perhaps as a graduation gift from grandma?
4) If you enjoy only take video and don't plan on eating it's a great idea, but the cost is a bit much. It is a novelty gift though. Not everyone needs it (if they do like video but not the price then there are other cheaper ones that exist).
5) About average webcam price. Also a good idea.
6) If you live in your car or in a tent that seems great. Sure, it doubles as a charging station and bag for long periods of time, but for that much money you might as well buy a bag and just carry your laptop with the USB cord to your iPod. Toss your phone charger in there while you're at it. For college life it seems a bit extravagant.
7) If you're moving to a new city that would be great. I don't know the average cost of GP Systems, but if you're easily lost or suddenly in a large city far from home it could be important and worthwhile.
I'm sorry about the long post.

are you guys loaded collage students who are allowed to use your parents credit cards to buy whatever you want? Most of this stuff is a waste of money, and maybe seems cool but… GPS? really?

No one "needs" these things, yes maybe nice to have in dire circumstances, but really? I thought this list would include the best laptop bags, genius new school products, and affordable sticky notes, but all with all the big prices who is really going to buy all this? Who is your editor and you manages his trustfund?
