Be Nice, Ohio State!

When I was a freshman my sorority whisked my pledge class away to an undisclosed location for a girls-only bonding weekend. We were told nothing about where we were headed; our only instructions were to bring some sweats and a going-out outfit or two.

It was only once we were 45 minutes into our drive that we learned where we were going: Ohio State University. Apparently our sorority had a chapter on that campus and it was the perfect place for us to hang.

Riiight.

Naturally, I was scared. I was wearing Michigan sweats from head to toe! (I was a freshman, gimme a break.) And it turns out my fears were justified. After spending a mere hour walking around the campus and having full beer cans and rocks thrown at our heads (we were 40 defenseless Jewish girls, mind you), we were forced to have police escorts for the rest of the weekend.

Yeah, those OSU people are some crazy sons of bitches. (And I can say that from [my life threatening] experience.)

It didn’t surprise me, then, when I discovered this PSA online. Only the Buckeyes would require a YouTube video PLEADING their fans to be nice to the men that serve our country when they show up to play some football on September 5th.

I just hope those Buckeyes listen. These men fight for our freedom (to get wasted and watch football games on Saturdays), so the least they can do is not throw batteries at their heads.

Is that too much to ask, OSU?

(P.S. GO BLUE!)

I go to UW-Madison, and I'm obviously completely biased, but I hate Ohio State with a passion.

I lived in Columbus for over a decade, and opted to go somewhere else for school, mainly cause i never got the buckeye fever like everyone else. But throwing beer cans is nothing, they've set cars on fire before!

I go to Iowa and Ohio State is one of our biggest rivals this year in football. I never cared before, but Ohio must go down.

The same thing happened to me when I (as an Ohio State fan) went to Michigan for a game. There are crazy outrageous people everywhere–maybe you should also be mad at your sorority for putting you in a dangerous situation?!

This isn't a video asking Ohio State fans to be nice… it's asking to start a tradition. This would be necessary at any school that wishes to start doing something like this. It doesn't say "Dear god please don't set the navy football team or any of their fans ablaze" it says "wouldn't it be cool if we could honor our military by applauding their football team? You understand how important football is and what this could mean!"

Big Ten football is a big deal. Ohio State-Michigan rivalry runs deep, but is also very much not one-sided. This is a pretty different situation.

As a fellow Michigan girl, I totally agree….competition is great, but at least we're civilized about it…GO BLUE!!!

Uh…competition is great and all, but throwing anything more than dirty looks is uncalled for. People need to calm down

It goes both ways. How do you think you guys would react to an OSU sorority decked out in Buckeye gear, walking around the Michigan campus together?

I know it's been said, but these rivalries go both ways. As an Ohio State sophomore and a huge Red Sox fan, I understand the ridiculousness of these strong rivalries. But while some Ohio State fans can be hostile, there are just as many Michigan fans who react the same way to seeing scarlet and gray (although I don't know why, cause Michigan sucks :P ) But just remember that this season when we come up to UM to play our annual rivalry game, and see the way our fans are treated. I'm sure it won't be with class and respect.

If a Buckeye goes to Ann Arbor in OSU gear things are thrown at us as well. Go Bucks! :)

OSU also has events on campus around the time of the Michigan game encouraging good sportsmanship. While I'm sure there are a lot of crazy fans who hate Michigan, there are JUST as many who are good sports about it.

Honestly why stand for the boat loving Navy? I'm in the Air force so just making a joke their. The video just says to respect those who have given up all they have for you that's all. Sorry about the beer cans and all but when people are drunk they lose control.

Hope Navy got destroyed. Go Blue "Air Force blue."

    And Bucks to!

Tell us what you're thinking...
