Truth: Your Parents Are Smoking Pot
If you notice that your mom’s eyes are a little bloodshot the next time you see her, it might not be because she’s been crying about how much she misses you.
As Slate’s Daniel Engber reports, a 2007 survey reveals that about 6 percent of Americans between 50 and 59 reported smoking pot in the past year. That means that more baby boomers than ever before are lighting up—and it’s fairly likely that our parents are among them.
Worried? I know I am. Sure, my mom and dad were teenagers in the ‘60s and ‘70s, when pot was as prevalent as ridiculous hairstyles, but it’s weird to think that they ever smoked in the first place—let alone that they might be doing it this very moment. And because I’m at school, I can’t keep tabs on them to make sure that our house is a toke-free zone.
But if any of the following things happen, I’ll know for sure that Mom and Dad are celebrating 4/20 a few months early. Without further ado: 6 Signs That Your Parents Might Be Stoners.
- When your mom and dad come to visit during Parent’s Weekend, all they want to do is sit around and watch Planet Earth in your dorm room.
- For Thanksgiving dinner this year, your mom gives nothing but one giant bag of Cool Ranch Doritos to every guest.
- Dad announces that he and Mom are taking a trip to Jamaica in early February to celebrate Bob Marley’s birthday.
- They start subscribing to Showtime just so that they can get Weeds on demand.
- Your mom sends you a care package with a Tupperware container filled with brownies and a note warning you only to eat one at a time.
- It’s impossible to have a phone conversation with your dad—not because he keeps nagging you, but because he starts giggling hysterically every time you speak.

Somoking has become acceptable in our society. Cops are a lot more lienent. In fact in Cali its a misdameanor for anything up to an once. All they do is write you a ticket or wind test it depending on how much you have. I know very few people that have never smoked and most people do recreationally which is what is was intended for in the first place. In fact I would be more concerned if my parents were alcoholics.

My boyfriend and I both smoke pot daily (it helps us unwind after work) And one day while having a conversation about it with my parents my mom said if it was legal she would still smoke it. I wouldn't really care if my parents did it, there are so many benefits of smoking pot and a lot of them would really help my parents.
Oh! and my boyfriends friends brought over Planet Earth last night, I'd never heard of it, but it was AMAZING!

Those have to be the most cliched and ludicrous "signs your parents are toking". Of all the parents I've known who are significantly older (40+) are nothing like what was described. They lead perfectly normal, hard-working lives, and are not like the over-used cliches of marijuana smokers. Neither are youth tokers, but that's not the point here

Anonymous, I'm pretty sure the list is meant to be jokes. No need to get defensive…

When I was in high school, I had at least eight friends who had dads who all got together on the weekends and smoked weed together, and laughed about the "good ol' days". I also had several teachers who did the same thing. Sometimes they would even come high to class. I also went to one of the most prestigious private school on the west coast. =) http://stonerdiary.wordpress.com
