Hey VH1: Miley Cyrus Is Not a Diva!

Miley Cyrus perform

Miley is NO Celine Dion.

When I think of divas, my mind automatically goes to artists such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion or Whitney Houston. But VH1 has other plans for this year’s Divas show, premiering live tomorrow night. Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus will be the headlining performers this year.

Now, I love Miley. “Party in the USA” has become my new anthem. But would I qualify her as a diva? I don’t think so. I don’t think she’s been alive long enough. And to have her share the same stage as Cyndi Lauper and Sheryl Crow, who will be special guests at this year’s show, well it seems almost disrespectful.

This is definitely the youngest set of pop-stars VH1 has grabbed yet. Many only have two or three hit songs. Perhaps they should rename the show “Divas in the Making” or “Not a Girl, Not Yet a Diva.” VH1 is presenting us with greatness in the making, with host Paula Abdul picking up where they are lacking in divaliciousness.

I won’t disagree that these young girls are hugely talented, but I think their addition to the show is a bit premature. While the majority of them are American Idols, I don’t think they are ready to make the crossover to American Divas just yet.

So now I have to ask… Will the real Diva please stand up?

I agree and I also don’t think some of the other “Divas” should be included in it either. I always thought of Divas like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, both of which had outstanding careers. Maybe I’m just getting old though and not understanding newer music.. ah I’m turning into my parents.

i agree completely! this is just a lillith fair american idol reunion with a couple of crowd pleasers thrown in (miley for the younger crowd and adele for the older ones) to try and mask it. i wonder how much of a hand simon cowell hand in this.

I think you are absolutely right. Now, there’s nothing I can say about as you took the words right out my mouth : )

After all, most of Miley’s songs are intended for a young audience. I’m not exactly sure Best Of Both Worlds might be a hit on the show.

Life After College: Business Cards Make Dreams Come True

I reuse Ziploc bags, I pay for my coffee with pennies, and all my jeans have holes in the crotch. I don’t pay for anything that I don’t desperately need. So even though I’ve been asked for my business card several times, I never shelled out the money to get them made. I will regret that decision for the rest of my life.
