From StyleBakery: Shoes To Wear To Class

Let’s face it: Those UGGs aren’t earning you any style points, but you wear them anyway because they are comfy and they match everything. There are other footwear choices out there that are wearable, warm, and WAY cuter.

Before temperatures get too low, wear a cute pair of flats with jeans or a skirt to school. If your flats give you blisters on the back of your heel, try inserting Foot Petals Heavenly Heelz, which keep your feet from slipping in and out of shoes. A single pack costs $6.95. Here are some fashionable flats that will get you out of that UGG rut this school year:

Another option is boots. Leather boots are stylish and comfortable for fall, but when it starts to rain or snow, you’ll need something waterproof (UGGs are not waterproof!). You can buy a leather protecting spray for your leather boots, or you could buy some cute snow boots!

As if I could spend $89 on flats, get real!

Ladies…if you need flats for classes, checkout these portable flats that fold and in pouch from http://www.fitinclouds.com

Always keep a bag of these in your bag-pack, and when those heels or shoes start bothering you, there is a solution right near you! I love them!

@Alicia I suggest going to DSW for boots or flats, they have so many at lower and higher prices, so there's no need to tell the writer to get real. I'm sure you can also find some good shoes at payless or the sale section at places that sell shoes, not everyone can afford the "real" thing but you can get some good shoes that look similar at a cheaper price. I personally like DSW because they have a good selection, specifically when I'm looking for flats that are dirt cheap and cute.

@Erin While I completely agree that there are many places to find more inexpensive shoes, I think Alicia was pointing out that it's sort of ridiculous to suggest such expensive shoes on a blog that's demographic is college students, most of whom can't afford to spend that kind of money on shoes.

@Brittney, I completely agree with you on this but I would also like to point out that part of being in college is being thrifty which is one of the things they life to point out on the site. I have a feeling part of this is to inspire people to find something other than the uggs and these are just some things she found to be a great starting point. I didn't feel telling the author to get a grip was in anyway needed, these are just suggestions on fashionable things to wear other than uggs. I would also like to point out some people are able to buy these boots, they are an investment that I'm sure many young ladies will talk their parents into buying as the boots at least can be worn for several seasons.

Boots are pretty sturdy, but my $60 Steve Madden flats are started to get seriously battered after only a couple weeks of use…

Another tip to avoid blisters: blister block. Both Band-Aid and Dr. Scholl's make a version and they look like little deodorant sticks that you put on areas of your feet where shoes tend to rub/cause blisters (I put it anywhere from the back of my heel to my pinky toe to the top of my foot) and it really helps!!

Erin- I understand that you are trying to stick up for the writer because she was only trying to help. However, this is a college site and most of us have a very limited budget. You say that "We" should get inspired by the overly expensive shoes that she has presented to us as alternatives, but wouldn't it have been better of the writer if SHE would have done the hard work for us? If SHE would hvae presented us cool shoes that were alternatives and affordable? Everyone knows there are alternatives to wearing Uggs, they just don't always know where to go to find a much cheaper alternative that still looks great. I mean let's face it, it's hard to find super hot shoes on a college budget. I think that would have been a much more helpful article than one that was only meant to "inspire" us.

@Gwenivere as the author of this post AND a college student on a budget, I don't believe in buying "cheap" things that are going to last me two months. Would I rather buy two pairs of $40 flats from Aldo that are going to fall apart after a few wears or invest in a pair from Banana Republic for $98 that will last at least a couple years? I also used to always shop for the cheapest thing, but after my clothes were falling apart and looked like crap after a couple months, I decided to make less but smarter purchases instead of buying a new outfit every couple weeks from Forever 21 or H&M. All the shoes I showed here are pretty classic, so it would be worth it to invest. If it was a pair of neon heels or fringe boots – both passing trends – I would agree that cheap is the way to go.
